Forums - Nintendo - Could Rockstar really be working on GTA Wii? TT Building assets for Wii...

I don't think there is much risk for Take Two to produce a Grand Theft Auto game for the Wii ...

Its really not that hard, or not that much extra work, for them to produce an additional "Ultra-High" level of detal that wouldn't be used by the Wii and release the game to the HD consoles or PC a year after its Wii release if it didn't make their sales expectations. For a lot of games this level of detail may already exist being that they often produce 3D assets and textures at a higher level of detail and then reduce the level of detail to make them work in game ...

Question: Why wasn't GTA on N64 or Gamecube?

In the N64 days, GTA wasn't very big. Making it on both systems would be a bit harder, as they were very different to develop for.

GC had too small disks for VC and SA. Their only option would be to dumb it down, or make a GC exclusive. They would get a lot less on this, so they decided to go with Ps2 and XB. The GC was so insignifficant, its sales wouldn't really matter to how hurt the sales could be on Ps2.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

An upgraded port of GTA:SA with Godfather like controls would be guaranteed profit for Take2.

GTA has a lot of mass appeal and would do very well on Wii even if it doesn't capture 30% of the userbase like it does on 360/PS3.

They said "assets to develop for the Wii". That means something like an engine or development tools.

And before people start spouting off about how Manhunt 2 didn't sell well remember, please, that Manhunt 2 was boring and terrible with awful controls. With the executions being blurred out, there was no longer any purpose to the game.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

@Leetgeek: It didn't make financial sense. Xbox version did, because it was powered (read: funded) by Micro$oft.

@Topic: GTA for Wii is a no-brainer, and even less when considering TT:s financials. Besides, TT basically owns the sandbox genre and TT wants to keep its position and therefore it needs to make the kind of games for the most popular platform so, that no one takes their place on the platform. If someone does, it doesn't matter who leads next gen, TT is going to have fierce competition at minimum, maybe even lose (in terms of sales) to a competing game (which means also that GTA sales would go down from this gen). So the question isn't will there be one, but when will there be one.
There could be various reasons why they don't comment on the matter:
1. They don't currently have GTA coming, but they want to keep people thinking there could be one.
2. They have GTA on the works, but since GTA4 has been on the market for so little time, they don't want Wii owners to stop buying PS360 for GTA.

So it seems i had only two (main) reasons i could think of.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

This is an old article.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Yeah, it's really coming to the Wii. I don't think that it is Grand Theft Auto 4 but a special game for the Wii.

That would be so stupid. I mean no offence to Rockstar or fans of the Wii. After playing GTAIV, I will never be able to play the old ones again. If they make a GTA for Wii, I honestly can't see it being much better than Vice City with a new control scheme.

I don't think GTA will come to Wii or we would have heard something/anything by now.
