Forums - Microsoft - Xbox portable?

I've heard rumors that microsoft might realease a portable gaming system, and it could be announced at this years E3. let's say that it does happen, what do you think it should be named? would xbox live be free? (since it'd be portable) would it include dual analog sticks?(which would be needed for Halo) what about xbox live marketplace? the price? what other features do you think will be included? discuss

Can we have a link to any of these rumors please.

Not going to happen anytime soon... I think they've learned that the Video game market is a bit harder to turn a profit in then they originally expected. The handheld market is especially brutal. Nintendo has this market cornered. Sony has made the best effort so far but even so... the PSP doesn't have the software sales to go along with their hardware sales... There is very little profit to be made if you aren't the company leading the way.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

I would say the chances of a Xbox portable are the same of Nintendo releasing a Wii HD this year.

I highly doubt it. If it were going to happen, Rare wouldn't have released Diddy Kong Racing on the DS

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

They have the Zune.

Honestly? I'd expect MS games on the iPhone or Zune before MS did a portable. They need a more profit-driven video game wing before they take the burden of a handheld.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

There's no good reason for them to come out with a portable gaming device. They would have to compete for 2nd with the PSP (because we all know they aren't going to dethrone the DS) and that's just not worth it. If they were to compete with the PSP, they would have to make it a media device that would compete with the iPod, iPhone, and their own Zune which is a fight they couldn't and wouldn't want to win.

SO in short, don't hold your breath for a MS portable.

Somewhat on topic, this is partly why I wouldn't be surprised to see Halo on the DS announced at E3.

The best selling hand held is the GBA next comes the DS afterwards comes the oricginal GameboyColor then the psp then the original gameboy, the only way sony will be de throning anyone is the handheld market is to release a re-design of a psp, and so far they dont comment on anything. The MS portable could be possible, microsoft relaesing halo on a portable system would make it #2 in a snap. M$ can make a portable when ever they wanted, but the likelyness of it being as good as the psp is very slim, they dont really know how to make small things, consider tha zune, music, and radio the size of a brick. Also microsoft has never been reliable in Hardware.

What are you talking about? The DS is the fastest selling system of all time (including home consoles). Are you talking about number of consoles sold or speed of console sold? If you are talking about number it's GBA > Gameboy > Gameboy Color > DS > PSP. If you are talking about speed of sales it's DS > GBA > Gameboy > Gameboy Color > PSP. Either way your claim makes no sense.

I would say that it is possible for Microsoft to produce a portable system but not very likely ...

As we are soon going to see with Sony, having to fight for marketshare on two fronts is going to be very expensive and their won't be much room for profitability; by the time the PS3 has some sort of stability Sony will be spending massive ammounts of money preparing for the PSP2's launch, and when that has some sort of stability Sony will be spending massive ammounts of money preparing for the PS4's launch.

... Microsoft has fought hard to build the little marketshare they have with the XBox 360 and they may soon have a profitable product, trying to jump into an expensive market right now would not be an appropriate approach.
