Forums - Gaming - The eight most powerful game studios in the world...

This list fails for not including Square-Enix. It's not every developer that can singlehandedly grab a new entrant into the video-game market and catapult it into first place.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

where the heck is S-E, their games alone coud decide a console war

They sure can't. They are not even releasing their games on the best selling console. Square Enix isn't as powerful as it used to be and some of their best franchises are developed externally like Dragon Quest and Star Ocean.

Maxis is The Sims and Spore.

Fifa is outselling Pro Evolution even if by a slight margin. Meta Gear Solid isn't that a big especially if you consider that Infinity Ward hasn't be included and Call of Duty 4 is way bigger than Metal Gear Solid 4. Where Konami really shines is in arcades with DDR and other games like that.

Finally, the most powerful developers aren't necessarily those you prefer.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

I'd replace EA Tiburon with Square-Enix, but other than that the list is fine

@papflesje
dude saying 2k3 was the last good unreal ouch. I hated 2k3 took too much out of unreal goty.

Though to list Valve as a honorable mention is sad. Valve easily deserves to be in the top.

wheres microsoft...

Microsoft barely has any first party studios to compete with the guys on that list. MS is a fantastic publisher but need more in-house studios under their belt.

The problem with the list is that Sony Computer Entertainment is on it. Sony has many studios under their "world wide studios" brand. It's unfair to say Sony is up there if only if you're comparing a single dev like Blizzard/Rockstar North to all of SCEI, which is actually made up of 16-17 different studios around the world. Sony should be taken off and replaced with Polyphony Digital.

I believe Forbes was the one.. I'm sure... but there was a list just like this except the measure was based on software sold by that development house.

I remember Nintendo's EAD's being picked out and a number of them were in the top 10.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

Some how I think this list is based on how much money the developer can throw to make games and also sells of games in some kind of ratio. It explains why microsoft is on the list even though that have very few internally developed games but have a huge operating budget. Also didn't Bungie buy themselves out which has be alot of money since probably microsoft was reluctant to let them go.We already know that Ea tiburon because of madden and the liscensing involve in songs and the NFL is expensive and they still able to other major projects on home consoles like Tiger Woods, nascar,NCAA and MechWarrior.

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !

Square Enix and Valve should replace Bungie and Epic.

HAHAHAHA microsoft isnt up there.

maybe they can pay Gamepro to put them on the list?

IMO I would remove SCE and put in Capcom or one of their runner ups.
