agreed. production costs are going to be down in the not too distant future, they already have gone done significantly since launch.
and i expect them to re-introduce full BC next year, once production costs have fallen.
They can't drop the price, so they have to increase the value
Some bundle with DS3 + 1 game.
For example, PES2009 for Europe
Or some movies.
Time to Work !

Switch to regular buttons instead of those fancy schmancy touch sensity marks. Switch to a basic matte-plastic case instead of glossy. Take the power supply out, and use a brick like the 360. Two USB ports. No optical out (not very realistic). |
i can't beleive you would want to take any of those out for a cheaper price tag..........I hate power bricks, i use all 4 of my usb ports all the time, i love the hell out of the bluetooth controller, the pop in disc tray is safer and keeps more dust out, touch sensitive buttons are needed for some games that wouldn't be the same. The only thing i can see changing that i wouldn't care to much about is the glossy finish....but....i still like that it's just i wouldn't mind. I have my ps3 plugged into a large screen HD monitor that doesn't have sound so i use the Optical for sound on a stereo set.
CURRENTLY PLAYING: Warframe, Witcher 2

Agree, except I don't think percieved value increases will give you anything but spikes, with the possible exception of backwards compatibility. For a sustained sales bump, you need a lower price, and even if you cut the percieved value significantly, you'll probably still get a better sustained bump, assuming you advertise it as a SKU that is here to stay, and not a marketing ploy.
MS seems to have bucked that theory, however, if their bump in the US and Japan lasts. Their percieved value increase come from FFXIII, and other games shown at E3, most notable the Gears 2 trailer, which is perhaps the best trailer I've ever seen(and I hate gears), as well as the 40 free gb of space, not to mention the cheaper selloff of old models.
It also appears that we'll see a price drop for at least one sku very soon for MS.
You can say what you want about the, but they are definitely taking the steps necessary to stage a momentum shift. There aren't a whole lot of things that they could have done better at E3, or since. Maybe buy and announce a MGS4 360 edition, but we must assume that such a thing was impossible due to what we can all assume is a timed exclusivity agreement and a Sony NDA.
MS has done some wheelings and dealings in hopes of renewing momentum for their console, and in the short term it appears to have helped.. This will eventually force Sony to respond, and it will likely be via a price cut.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
I'm pretty sure that this thread is supposed to be about Sony cutting costs to make the PS3 either more profitable or lowering the retail price... most of these look like "dream packages".
I think this thread is genius by the way.
@Soulsamari: The price is a problem for Sony, maybe not for you because your so rich. But there are alot of people who want to play Sony games (me!) who don't want to spend all that money on hardware. Many people do no care about power bricks, wireless, slot loading drives, etc. etc. etc.
Some people actually prefer to spend their money on games not hardware. (This goes out to all my Nintendo Friends too. Love you guys.)
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
LOL. Funny that you guys suggest that Sony use deceptive marketing to sell more consoles.
Sony don't need to increase the value of the PS3 they need to reduce the price point and only reduce the price point , it's still out of the range of what many people could afford.
Would a $1 Trillion spaceship be any more of an attractive purchase with 5 free Ferrari's ? It would be more value for money than a $1Trillion spaceship but it would still be unaffordable for 99.9% of NA population.
Sony need a low price point (even if it cost's them reduced functionality) for mass market penatration.
Get that $199.99 Price tag ASAP DAMNIT or at least $250.
