Forums - Nintendo - Wait... Okami didmt sell well on 280,000 copies D= Care anyone explain?

Sorry if its old news;

http://kotaku.com/5031280/okami-on-wii-didnt-do-so-well

When Capcom's Christian "Sven" Svensson said you all needed to go out and buy more copies of Okami, damnit, he wasn't kidding around. Tucked away in Capcom's financial results yesterday were some sales figures for the company's biggest games, showing that the Wii port of the PS2 classic - a version that was supposed to deliver the kind of sales the title deserved - has sold only 280,000 copies in North America and Europe since release. Being a port I'm sure they still turned a profit, but with Res 4 managing to sell over a million on the Wii, you can't blame Capcom if they decide to toss Okami in the "too hard" basket.

For a port, didnt advertised, less developing cost than No More Heroes and Zack and Wiki, they didnt make profit on THIS?!! I could say they cant make a sequel on this SINCE Clover the original developer of this game is disssolve but didnt sell well?!!!

Anyway, I think bengabenga can answer this since he is chit chatting with sven on the forum...

Gosh I hate that prick at Capcom he's such a hypocritical whiny annoyance at times. He says one thing then he says another. He's someone that seriously needs to keep their mouth shut at times.

And of course it didn't sell well. No advertising. No media attention because publisher didn't seek it out. And no hyping for those 2 reasons. If ya don't care about it then you won't get good sales. Seriously almost 300k out of all of that is a blessing. If you wanted more sales you would have advertised it and made it a big deal. Now complaining about it is their fault. Companies need to understand just because you release a game on the Wii doesn't guarantee sales. Like every other platform ya have to market and advertize it like the kinda game you want it to have sales of.

It didn't sell well on the PS2 either did it, considering the install base? It's a shame, cos it's a great game.

^ 280,000 copies for a niche game wasnt that bad, its actually good ask grasshopper and marvelous entertainment. The problem was CAPCOM saying ITS BAD bothers me

It seems Japanese gaming fans are not responding the way they once did.

Have you seen how many are still on store shelves? There stacked up every where... Retailers are probably pissed.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Is Capcom Sven the same bum that said to "not worry" because there would be no more Final Fight games? If so...

I WANT Final Fight games, not Mega Man's Cousin Zero-Four-Nine Maximus Battle Transmission Network: A New Beginning.

But anyways, I think Capcom was wanting Okami to be a genuine hit, both on the Wii and PS2. Don't ask me why it didn't get more advertisement. Maybe a bit like Nintendo was a few years ago, expecting positive word-of-mouth to do the advertising for them.

@steven

LOL are you sure? CAPCOM even says it meet their expectations. Do you mean this game a port have more retail pre orders than Zack and Wiki which even impossible to find actually sell more than 400,000 copies so far? :/

Okami is a niche game.

Final Fight was awesome, but demand for Beat em up's went downward when people started focusing on JRPG's solely on Nintendo and Sony during the PSX era. Remember that game Fighting Force? That was amazing wasn't it? Well...that type of fun is a dying breed, a niche if you will. I loved it, you love it, but stick a fork in it. God Hand was the last game. God knows if the people respond to another beat em up, it will be a very long time.
