"The Wii is viewed as a family console, the PS3 viewed as for mature (as in over 26) gamers, and the 360 viewed as for teenage boys. There are fewer teenage boys than the other two groups."

Err, where can that possibly come from other than your own personal experience? I never heard this anywhere before.

oh just to precise I'm European born and raised I actually lived 22 years in one of the 3 European capitals, you can't really do much more European

One of the three European capitals? Whaat?

yeah the administrative power is devided in three different cities.... Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg... kind of complicated and not really the subject here lol....

Don't worry, I'm from Europe. To call those cities the European capitals is quite a stretch ;) At most, they're the cities of the EU headquarters. We're understood now though.

yeah I saw that after in your profile, it's the status they have though, UE is a union with a three cities used as capitals, frankfurt and the hague has european administration but are not concidered captial, hell we even have a european hymne... it's sementic after that...

I'd have thought the phrase "from what I can see" would be rather a large giveaway that I'm talking from personal experience. As I (and everyone else contributing to this thread I assume) don't have the resources to carry out a vast scientific study on Europe-wide attitudes towards the Xbox 360 I don't see how anyone can be talking from anything other than personal experience. Your personal experience obviously differs, bully for you.

They can't win Europe really, people are too stupid that is the problem.

Silly little twirps listening to their friends rubbishing the 360 as per usual...Nothing new there.

Its a shame people don't buy consoles based on the number of quality titles released, after all that is what a GAMES console is for.

Nope, they just shimmy on down to CurrysGame etc with their "I'm so cool folowing stupid 14 year old friends who know shit about shit" buy a PS3, with its generally worse ports, fewer quality games...

Live happily ever after.

Its the same for everything, people are generally stupid and you can't win.

The only way MS can win now is by deception like Sony have done with their "brand".

Oh well :)

I hope you are the little brat on the photo because if you are any older its a real shame. For you ,I mean.

Maybe we arent that stupid mind you.Maybe we just  prefered to buy a console that didnt RROD on us ,that had backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2(at least the 60GB with both) ,that had assured us from the word go  the games we were waiting without having to cross the fingers and hope and pray for a last minute port due to MS signing big checks.

Maybe we just noticed the PS3 had Wifi built in so we hadnt to wire all the house to the disgust of our girlfriends (when you grow older you will understand) or families.Maybe the wireless and battery-free controllers were just a plus over the 360.

Maybe we understood that the console was fully operative in an HDTV and if you had one of these the Blu Ray was a massive plus.

Maybe we just dont want to pay Bill Gates and MS 60 euros a year for the rest of our lifes to play online when we can do the same for free with the Sony system.

Maybe we didnt want to support the really poor MS products as its underperforming and resources consuming Windows. So we didnt want to support with the 360 all the propietary software of MS that goes with it:DirectX ,XNA ,Windows, etc.

Maybe we just realized that 95% of X360 games would be coming sooner or later for PC(that we all have got or will have to buy another in few time) while the PS3 exclusives are really exclusives.

Maybe the fact of being able to use all our PC accesories (keyboards, headsets,HDDs) was really attractive without having to pay those overpriced X360 accesories and we made some numbers.

Maybe we arent stupid at all .....maybe YOU are stupid for not having thought about any of this dont you think?

A lot of good points. From what I can see, people here view the 360 as third choice because:

  • PlayStation and Nintendo = gaming. Microsoft doesn't have a legacy.
  • Microsoft have an extremely bad reputation here and people would prefer not to give them their money if possible.
  • The PS3 has a very similar library so there's no huge draw in terms of a massive exclusive library.
  • Paying for online is considered too far when the other consoles have free online and almost everything on the internet is free. We already pay for the internet and for games, we shouldn't have to pay more to play those games on the internet.
  • The Wii is viewed as a family console, the PS3 viewed as for mature (as in over 26) gamers, and the 360 viewed as for teenage boys. There are fewer teenage boys than the other two groups.
  • The PS3 has blu-ray.
  • All the hype's with the Wii so it's what new gamers and those unsure exactly what they want will buy.
  • And most importantly of all, RRoD. The three year warranty has improved things, but not much, because it shouldn't be happening in the first place. We expect products to do what they say and to do it for as long as we want them to. Products dying because they weren't made properly is just completely and totally unacceptable here. From what I can gather on here Americans don't seem to feel the same way, they just view it as an annoyance. I really can't emphasise how strongly Europeans view it as a disgrace, a rip-off and a con. We're used to our electronics lasting until we want to replace them with something new, we are not used to having them conk out. We will not buy products that do that.

Well I am 45 and another contributer to this thread  is 41 so I dont know about the teenage boy thing.

Also we are both Europeans.

I know plenty of people in the same age bracket with the 360.

sony does nothing to win, it has inferior games, twice the price, everything. but it still wins? so when they do try (once they start making profit), what happens then?

Well the Wii thing is right, people don't think its "hardcore", they think it as family-friendly, this is just obvious if you read this forum and others.

PS3 and xbox are maybe more of the same demographic but when I hear xbox I do think of teenage boys screaming in their headsets playing halo 3 and calling other people noobs and asses, etc... and have seen that happen.

I think the reason why xbox is not doing so good is because people don't like microsoft, I kinda don't like how they entered the gaming business either but people are just turned off by them. But they are still doing good, all systems are beating their past console sales faster, except PS3 of course.

The longer I witness the behavior of Sony fanboys regarding the 360 and MS, the more I get the feeling that MS deliberately designed their console to fail as often as it does.

Why? In order to protect Sony fanboys from hurting themselves of course:
witnessing the 360 doing so well they need a means to channelize their hateful emotions, or in other words, a teething ring - which is the RROD. Yes, the RROD is nothing but an MS-provided teething ring for Sony fanboys that would otherwise probably gnaw at their walls or furniture and most likely get hurt. So in reality the RROD is just a protective measure, and those that are protected by it do not even appreciate it.

I will wait at least until the Jasper model before I buy a 360 btw

PS3 can maintain a lead on 360 in EU with less effort than 360 needs to put in in order to regain second place.... but this is still a fight for second place.....

4 ≈ One

The online is definitely a issue.

Look at MS own declarations last week.75% of the Live users are in US ,most of the others are in Europe ,and from that 25% ...75% are in Uk.That gives a good indication that only about 5-7% of the Live users are in mainland Europe ..and that without considering the Japanese and Others users. The 360 is selling more now because 199 is dirty cheap and they give you 3 games with it (I was tempted to buy a 210 Arcade unit with Viva Piñata ,Ninja Gaiden II ,Lost Oddysey...but the guy in the store told me the Arcade units were most faulty so that cooled my impulse).
