Quotes from NeoGAF:
Highlights
- Decrease in sales and posting operating loss of $43 million for pachislot/pachinko,
- Decrease of sales for amusement machines but operating profit of $7 million, which was offset by a $15 million operating loss in amusement facilities,
- Huge increase in sales for the Consumer division ($305 million, a 90% increase year-on-year), but still a operating loss of $41 million - aka sales aren't everything.
Consumer Highlights
- Shipments of Mario and Sonic have topped 7 million (assumed over both platforms), not 10 million as per this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=327805
- Valkyria bombed hard, shipped 147,000 copies
- Iron Man did very well in US/Europe, shipping 1,840,000 copies
- Hulk was also released but there are no numbers
LOL
- Apparently the (ex) Bear Stearns Companies have/had a 1.2% interest in Sega Sammy, JP Morgan (had) 1.5%, probably now 2.7% assuming that wasn't sold off
- Sammy's Pachislot sales share has halved from 40% in 2004 to 20% in 2007 (still market leader).
- No change in full year forecast of $130 million operating profit and $50 million net profit. Good luck guys.
Commentary
Sega Sammy's pachinko/pachislot business isn't doing as well as it used to - it used to hold up everything else. Sega's consumer business hasn't gone anywhere either, but at least its amusement machines is showing a profit. There's a bad sign for original IP on an exclusive platform as Valkyria bombs while the license-generated multiplatform Iron Man sells 1.8 million. Sega's in strife, and it's hard to see where they'd go from here.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
