Forums - Microsoft - When will Microsoft ditch gamertag?

So, what do you think?

M$ already have took one big step towards friendcodes with its avatars. Friendcodes in general are more userfriendly evinronment, so in addition to make Live more appealing to the public, a friendcode system would be no-brainer. And since M$ makes big bucks with Live, they really have motivation to make it better for people. Maybe the 720 has friendcodes, or will we see them on 360?

No, why would people want friend codes? They are a bit pointless, and I dont see the issue with having gamertags?

@Munkeh: The issue is the same as making a forum account. You need to create an original account instead of using the name you want, which is a turn-off for people (for example me). Of course you can use the random generator, which will lead to a retarded tag (like my brothers gamertag). When using friendcodes, you just pick your Mii and you are ready to go.

Yes but I do not really want to be known as 1345625534534, I would prefer being munkeh111. When somebody asks for my tag, I can give them that, but i have to memorise a whole long number for my wii, and I think they are unique for every game? So that throws acheivements out of the window as you have no unified system

No, i'm not joking. I do know what the friendcode system is. I doubt any Wii owner isn't familiar with it. Besides, the complaint you see with friendcodes, does't relate to friendcodes in any way. The complaint is all about Nintendo not having a standard procedure in using them. 0602-6431-9626 is a lot easier to remember than whether was the guy leet_geek, l33t_g33k, leet g33k, l33t g33k, le3t g33k, leet ge3k, lee geek, lee_geek, lee_gee, 1337_geek, etc...

Really? That's why you are using Miis. I like that i can be known as Heke, instead of Heke123. First is good, latter a little retarded. Therefore i mentioned the avatars.

MS should go backwards and implement useless 16 digit Friend Codes for every game. Gamer tags lead to an easy system for people to use for online gaming.

BTW: Will you make a PS3 should use Friend Codes as well thread? I guess someone will make a thread saying PSN should implement Friend Codes so they can copy the socialist system the Wii.

No i'm not. As far as i know, Sony haven't made a similar step towards friedcodes as M$. Besides, it looks like Sony isn't going to fight Nintendo as M$ propably will (although Nintendos success plays in M$:s pocket too).

If you noticed, you didn't complain about friendcodes, only how they are used. And it's 12 digits for games, 16 for consoles...
