Blu-Ray is very much global , it sits on the shelves of retailers in pretty much every major economy in the world. A Sample size of 1000 people is pathetic , My college would be a bigger sample and that would still be neglible.

But what about disc sales for DVD and BluRay at the same time after introduction?

The report, which surveyed 1000 people, found that over 50 percent of the respondents had not plans to buy a Blu-ray player ever, and that an additional 23 percent are likely to buy, but not before 2009.
Most of those polled also declared they would not upgrade simply because they do not have an HDTV and do not plan to buy one. Others simply felt standard definition DVD quality was "good enough." 50 percent of those polled rated Blu-ray quality as "much better" than standard DVD, but a large 40 percent said it was only "somewhat better."

I would assume the majority of the 50% do not have a HDTV, so getting a Blu-Ray is pointless.  So the remaining 27% of the people surveyed either own a Blu-Ray player, or plan to buy on this year?  That seems pretty positive.

ABI also added that they do not expect to see Blu-ray player prices to fall before 2009, and that the PS3 was still the bang for your buck if you do intend to upgrade. “We expect that [Blu-ray] player prices will remain above $300 for Tier One models for the remainder of this year."

They remove PS3 sales when looking at Blu-Ray player sales, then tell people to get one as a Blu-Ray player.  Nice.

I notice starcraft hasnt come back to post in this thread since his original post...almost as if hes watching our reactions. Im not falling into the trap

There are still skeptics who don't believe in Blu-ray adoption... Maybe look at the sales data. Blu-ray sales are up 300% from last year. Blu-ray players are selling better than DVD players at the same time point. Do you guys expect blu-ray to have negative sales?

These Blu-ray articles sound vaguely familiar.

DVD Versus VHS: The Surprising Truth
"Over the past few years, American consumers have been hearing a lot about DVD .. the Digital Versatile Disc that is promising to completely revolutionize how we watch movies at home. We've been told that our old and beloved standby, VHS, is Yesterday's News .. that it is old and decrepit, and that it is no longer capable of delivering the quality that is demanded by modern audiences. As a result of this, there has been an exodus from our analog roots as American families have abandoned their VHS collections for the new technology of DVD.
But is this a wise investment, and is the technology actually worth anything?

You might be surprised. "

Blu-Ray sales up 300% from what value? Percentages don't mean much when we're talking about small values.

Blu-ray players selling better than DVD players at the same time point - source for this?

Blu-Ray sales are not going to just eclipse DVD in one day or anything like that. Since Blu-Ray players are backwards compatible with DVD players, there's no reason for someone to buy a Blu-Ray disk over a DVD, since Blu-Ray players (most of them I believe), upscale DVDs. Granted Native > Upscaling, but the difference isn't as great between an upscaled DVD and a Blu-Ray movie, rather than a Native DVD and Blu-Ray.

And yes, we all know that PS3 is the reason for Blu-Ray's success.

Blu-Ray adoption will not grow significantly until movies stop being released on DVD, and movies won't stop being released on DVD until Blu-Ray adoption grows significantly.

Strange cycle.
