Forums - Sales - Prediction: $200 360 will outsell $400 PS3 and $250 Wii

I think that has to be the most unintelligent prediction I have heard since joining this site, seriously.

If this causes Sony to respond with a substantial price cut, then this would have been horrible for Microsoft WW, since the boosts WW, especially in Europe, would be really large for Sony.

However if Sony doesn't respond this whole holiday season the Xbox360 will beat out the PS3 by quite a bit. However, I think people are forgetting one thing about the PS3.

This winter marks the first holiday season that Blu-Ray is THE HD disc standard, which means stores like Best Buy and Walmart will most likely be heavily promoting Blu-Ray, and consequently, the PS3. This holiday season will be the heaviest HDTV season to date, and I think we are going to see the value of PS3's Blu-Ray capabilities put in to play.

I think the difference between the 360 and PS3 won't be AS big when the 360 drops to $199 because of that fact. As far as HD consoles sold for solely gaming, the 360 would win that by a mile.

Sony should've introduced the 80gb at 300 or 350$. Because we all knew M$ would get desperate and drop the price of the 360.

Just some thoughts.

First of all, I consider the source of this prediction. I do not think the prediction can be separated from the person making it ... a person who does not have generally a lot of good things to say about the Wii.

Second, http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=Wii&reg1=America&cons2=PS3&reg2=All&cons3=X360&reg3=All&start=39565&end=39663

This chart shows how the Wii in the Americas is doing compared to the WW sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360. Surprisingly, it is close. But many weeks, just the sales in one region for the Wii are better than the sales in all regions for the other two cosoles.

Third, the cost "advantage" quickly disappears for the Xbox 360 when memory has to be bought. This costs at least $20. And interestingly, the MSRP on the 512M unit (to put it on par with the Wii) is the same as the price difference -- $50. Related to this, top games cost $10 more on the Xbox 360. Then there are the cables and headsets that come with the more expensive models and the $100 wireless adapter that is built into the Wii.

Fourth, the price drop has not changed demand in Europe. As has been noted, you can get an Xbox 360 tas a hard drive for less than a Wii. But the Wii still outsells it.

Fifth, how many people really want Arcade 360s? This has all the markings of a stock dump. The target for this is more casual gamers -- but other than Viva Pinata, what games are there for them to buy (I know there are some, this is rhetorical).

If Microsoft really wanted to move sales, it would lower the price of the 60M unit to $300 (from $350) and the 120M unit to $400 (from $450).

Would I be surprised if the Xbox 360 had a good week after the price drop? NO.

Would I be surprised if the Xbox 360 is still selling as well three weeks after the price drop? YES.

@Mike - You do NOT need to buy a memory card. Besides all else adding a bunch of stuff that may not be needed just to bump up the "price" is meaningless.

PS3? Probably.

Wii? In the US, maybe. Outside shot as long as Nintendo continues to fail to meet Wii demand. But world wide it'll still get pwned.

Weekly that is.

I expect 360 to outsell the Wii week by week starting saaay next week or 2 weeks from now and of course that means the PS3 as well.

For me personally 360 has blown past Wii as my secondary console of choice.

Also I expect Sony to respond with a price drop by october orrrr if they are smart by september that would curb these sales. I think Nintendo will not drop the price of the Wii this year.

I hope all those people dont want to download alot of stuff, or they are going to be mighty pissed off at what will cost them 150 dollars to correct. The real one to look at is the 299 60 gig version, thats where the bread winning will be, if said bread winning does happen.

I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

"is it Wii FIt that has sold as many as PS3's sold? Thats a LOL Look at the total sales of software is it just me that sees Nintendo titles hitting 10m+ and you say they arent making a difference? Another LOL!"

"Hell, with all the negative hype Sony spin, people just aren't interested cost is too high and to get the true HD experience (1080p, 7.1 surround) you will need a $1000+ system. THAT IS GOING TO DO IT IN A RECESSION! PS4 will not happen"

I thought the 60 gig 360 was $350? $350 360 is fail vs. $400 80 gig PS3

60gb is 300$ and is already out on some retailers

Also, ur prediction will NOT happen

Even the PS3 will comeback later this year during the Xmas sales.

Dont even think about Xbox360 outsellling the Wii ...
