Forums - PC - Finally, a smart, legal way to get awesome old games..

Hey everybody,

I don't know how many folks here are PC gamers from the old days when we had games like Fallout, Deus Ex, Freespace, System Shock 2, and more to play back then. Well, I'm one of them. And I have to say, I hold a lot of titles like these dear to my heart. Even though they're old and crotchety, I still think of many of these games as some of my all time favorites. And, I don't know about anyone else, but a lot of these games don't run on Vista or XP and if they do sometimes just have issues. So, I generally can't reinstall or play them again without running a Windows 98 virtual machine.

Well, someone out there has made something awesome - called Good Old Games.

Apparently, this site is going to host all kinds of awesome old games for around $7-$10 each. They're going to be downloadable, but here's what I think is even better than Steam: All their downloads are DRM-Free. You can back them up to CDs/DVD's and never need to worry about authenticating the games. And, ll the games they offer are being re-tooled to work on Vista/XP.

I have to say, I'm already sold on the service. Just getting these games to run on Vista would be awesome.

What do you guys think of the idea?

Cool. I am thinking about playing for Western RPGs to balance my nutrition of Japanese RPGs. This site could be just what the doctor ordered

EDIT:Just signed up for beta.  It's easy.  All you need is your email adress.

That site is owned and being made by CD Projekt, developers of The Witcher. Those guys know what PC gamers want.

I'll buy Planescape: Torment if they ever release it on GOG.

I fixed your link, it was typed incorrectly.

Looks pretty good!

I own Deus Ex on Steam, but a legal way to buy these old games is great!

I've been wanting to play the Fallout games, since my friends rave about them but I never played them when I was younger.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Cant wait to try this out!  Thanks for the link Teqonix!

Fallout seems good as well as Planescape Torment.  I want to see what the raving is about for those games

I have already purchased/acquired during the last 2 years :

legal

DeusEx,
Baldur gate (1+2 + 2*add-on)

less legal

Planetescape Torment : too hard to get a real copy !!!
System shock 1 and 2

EDTI : about GoG

well, it seems cheap and really amazing for "old school players"

(WITH A LOT O TIME ^^)

like me,

a Amiga player that directly go PSX and PS2 and warcraft3 without playing some of the best W-RPG / FPS-RPG
