Thats strange. So HSBC is basically devalued and currently can be sold for much cheaper than it's worth?

Read my post above to answer your question.
Reason Petrochina is worth more than Exxon is two fold :
- Chinese market has experimented tremendous stock growth this last years and as a result some companies are now overvalued
- Exxon is a company having very little growth these days ( main impact on Exxon profit is price of oil) whereas PetroChina still has huge growth potential. ( the more cars in china, the more gaz to refine and sell..)
Most of the time you will find out that company with huge growth potential have a higher market cap that company with stable/low growth but higher revenue.. Mainly because a huge factor in the price of a company's stock is the P/E ratio and especially the future P/E ( Price/Earnings).
im not convinced sony is worth what they would want for it. i dont see anything near enough of a benefit to warrant it either.
i think picking up some smaller companies would be much better and cheaper.

If MS tried to buy Sony's gaming division, I think the FTC would step in.
Before the start of this gen analysts were predicting that Wii (or Revolution as it was called at the time) would be totally crushed by PS3 and 360 and might be Nintendo's last console. Now it is being suggested that PS360 gang up against Nintendo to have any hope. Incredible how things can change in a relatively short period of time.

Wow. this guy is waaay out there. Also, to the people saying Ninty would be harder to buy out than Sony, you're crazy. Sony made #75 on the Fortune 500. Nintendo wasn't on the list at all.
Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

Microsft + Sony = Beautiful.
I don't think the world needs an XBOX and a Playstation .

This guy has been living under a box seriously. SCE made a profit last quarter, as did MSGamingDivision but that isn't the point, the point is that Sony made a profit after roughly 1 and a half years of a loss MS made a profit after about 6 or 7 years of loss so surely MS has a much bigger loss overall. Well it just so happens that they do, i think they have roughly $7.5 billion of loss where as SCE doesn't even have 1/4 of that.
There is more chance of Sony buying Microsoft's gaming division than the other way round.
(If any one as different numbers to me but also has a source then your numbers are right mine are just from what i can remember)

As I said before, the company's worth is not the assets value. It's Assets minus Liabilities.
If you have a $500k house that you have a $400k unpaid loan on, the current worth of the house+loan is $500 - $400k = $100k. No one will pay you $500k for it, unless you get rid of the loan yourself.
When you buy a company, you also buy their debts, etc. Not just their assets. Since you're buying "debt", this decreases the amount you have to pay (i.e. debt has a negative worth).
