I love JRPGs, I love FF games, but his words "tedious, sub-Hollyoaks, dramatic nonsense featuring the standard collection of Japanese video game cliches." are spot on. Don't kid yourselves about what you enjoy, they are great games with entertaining story if you like that level of drama, but in any real story sense compared to some things in other medias, its laughable. e is also right about people pretending to like things just because their console has it, I'd bet money a lot of 360 owning FF haters have suddenly dissapeared, replaced by FF fans. |
That's why we have lower standards for video game stories than for the stories in literature. The only video game story that would translate well into a novel and be praised by literature critics would be Planescape Torment
Ehhh who cares? That guy probably just wants some attention. I'll enjoy Final Fantasy XIII while he plays generic shooter #273.
If the game is fun and the characters good, great battle system, have a nice story and good motives, I'll play it. That simple.
His criticisms, while being an opinion, are kind of weird since you could use them for about any game. Just replace Japanese by American/European or anything you can think of.
Also, the story may be over dramatic and some motives/dialogues silly but IT'S A GAME... It's not supposed to be realistic. Anyway, that's how I see it.

That's a great point. FFXII tried to be realistic in those aspects but the story and character interactions(or lack of) were a disappointment as a result even though the gameplay is great
he is just upset that its not a FPS gore fest, throw in a boob scene and you will hae this guy back in the game

At least in Morrowind you must save a bunch of unpleasant and racist dark elves from a well deserved vengeance!
| Pristine20 said: Not everyone likes JRPGS. They're still a niche genre. Some people who don't play other JRPGs just play FF for some reason. This kind of website can be deceiving. None of my friends have ever played a JRPG. They don't even understand the gameplay i.e why you have to select auto command and use millions of items, suffer from diseases, etc. |
Hey, in Morrowind you can use millions of items and you MUST suffer a particular disease and optionally suffer others... Perchance it's a JRPG in disguise?

Final Fantasy XII.
