Maybe doing some kind of RRoD experiment sounds like a fun idea. LOL... jk, of course.

Yes, PS3 does play regular DVDs, it also upscale it also, I've been using it as my DVD player for my bedroom from day one.

Game saves vary quite drastically from game to game... Many about 100K... Some are many megabytes.

 

The game save space is biggest issue for me.

You can also use external USB drives for game saves.
