Forums - Nintendo - RUMOR: Beautiful Katamari Skips PS3, Goes Wii

http://wii.ign.com/articles/800/800761p1.html

Namco Bandai revealed earlier this year that it was developing the next-generation Katamari Damacy sequel, Beautiful Katamari, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Up until recently, the developer continued to work on both versions of the project. However, sources close to Namco Bandai tell IGN that the studio ran into some trouble with the port of the game to PlayStation 3 and these issues, coupled with the stalled sales of the system, have led to the project's quiet cancellation. Looking to better-than-expected sales of Wii, the company has, say insiders, re-shifted resources to ready a Wii build of Beautiful Katamari instead. Given that the title cannot be ported from Xbox 360, the game is being re-concepted for Wii.

This is not the first time Katamari has been rumored for Wii. In early 2007, reports of Katamari for Wii began to surface. However, development sources indicated at the time that Namco was not thrilled about the prospect about moving forward with the project, mostly because it was not convinced that Wii would be a success. The game's original creator has in the past been critical of Nintendo's platform, too.

We contacted Namco Bandai for comment, but a spokesperson for the company did not return our inquires in time for the publishing of this article.

As always, until we get an official confirmation from the company, this story should be considered rumor. However, when asked, our well-placed sources said the information was "100 percent reliable."

So, to sum up:

First, it was coming to all 3.

Next, it was only for the PS3 and 360.

Then, it was 360 exclusive and headed for XBLA.

Now, PS3 version cancelled, working on Wii version.

Still a rumor, though.

I think Katamari and Wii fit perfectly.

I don't see the big deal about this game? I haven't played it before but it looks exceedingly boring to me, you just role around and get bigger am i correct?

It is a type of game that you HAVE to play to understand. I was the same way. Then, I played a demo at Circuit City. Fell in love with the game.

Yes. You are correct.

^As you can see from the lack of attention this thread has gotten, not too many people are excited about the game.

IGN's rumor record isn't exactly stellar.

We know the game isn't coming to PS3, though. I believe N'Gai Croal broke that story?

Its inevitable that some Katamari game eventually comes to both PS3 and Wii, though. Whether it is this iteration or not, I don't care.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

As a Wii owner more games is good I guess but I don't really know anything about it so hard to get real excited. :P

Well, I am still on the fence about IGN's claim of Halo on the DS and Project H.A.M.M.E.R. being cancelled. Other than that, I would say IGN's rumor record is not bad.

His story seemed to describe it as being a timed exclusive.

This rumor says that the plug was pulled on the PS3 version, and that they are working on a Beutiful Katamari version for the Wii.

i was disappointed when rumors had it it's coming to 360 exclusively?

and now this.

what's the deal with rumors? i'm beginning to hate them.

anyhow, i fell in love with it when i tried it at a friend's place... that coupled with my wanting a newer version of DDR that only came on the PS2 made me want a PS2. but it was back when PS2 cost over $200 so i never came close to actually wanting to buy a PS2. my friend lent me her PS2 anyway, and i finished the game in 2 days. short experience, but sweet as hell. also very dizzy... but it was so addictive i couldn't stop despite the motion sickness.

but playing it through once is probably enough for a lifetime. still, i could be picking this up if this comes out for the wii, but depends on whether it's got something new to offer.

the Wii is an epidemic.

IDK about that. I would play stages multiple times, especially the later ones were you were able to get HUGE Katamaris, simply for the sake of making them bigger, and much more quickly.

Hell, for the first game, I managed to collect every single item that could possibly be rolled up in the game. That was crazy.
