Valve would definitely be a developer worth fighting over apparently.

Who would buy Valve?
EA - They would get an inhouse engine development company, they could combine their Rockband, Online PC game downloads with Steam to create a powerful all in one service. They are also pretty close to Valve in terms of personal relationships.
Microsoft - They have a fairly decent relationship with Valve at least, since they would be collaborating on a lot of Valves work, they could combine Steams offerings with Xbox Live and roll them together (Port shitloads of games from steam), also Windows Live could be rolled into Steam as well. The engine development in house could be quite useful to expand the Xbox Development kits potential also.
Tease.
That's pretty expensive for a developer. I think Valve would benefit a lot more because of Microsoft's marketing team, just look at what they did with Halo and gears of war.

I can't believe that no one mentioned how Valve was founded by former MS employees

someone always loses, although they really dont seem very interested in the other consoles, so probably not a big problem for them.

I was under the impression that Gabe Newell dislikes Microsoft. Anyway, any interested company would have to fork ALOT to buy Valve, especially now that Steam is a huge successful business.

Probably cause that was like 15 years ago. Newell hasn't exactly had the most positive things to say about MS the last few years. They also have been strong advocates against Games for Windows.
If anyone did it would be EA, but Valve is privately owned, and they wouldn't sell unless they knew they had complete freedom to do what they wanted.

Valve is one the the biggest proponents of PC gaming. Microsoft buying them would be very bad for the PC.
Valve being bought by Microsoft would be horrible for the industry as a whole. Steam needs to be brought to Linux and Mac to open up the OS world to competition. Having everything controlled by MS would be the downfall of PC gaming.
