Right now it is at 46.7

And only hours ago it was at 46.8%. If it keeps losing 0.1% every hour, by the end of the week it will be way below 0% -- possibly around -100% to -200%.
You guys forget:
Since the Wii is selling out now, it will see much less of a sales boost in the holiday season than the PS360.
50% this year is unlikely...
It is unlikely, but we shouldn't forget that Nintendo might be stockpiling for Christmas.

They are most likely going to achieve around 45 million in sales by the end of the year (20 + 1.8*6 + 2.4*6; if you don't get the numbers, ask), which is probably going to be surpassed by PS360. 50% will happen in 2009, unless Nintendo surprises us (or PS360 does worse than expected).

A number increases. There's no reason understand how or why or what getting to 50% means, even if someone like me breaks it down in every other thread about the subject. |
I believe the reason is this.
You could either:
Watch the %. It increases, now you only need addition to do what you want. Addition with numbers less than 100, and changes of less than 10. You willget the answer you want fairly oftenly, as you're a bit biased towards that one.
Or
Read a detailed thread where someone describes what is happening, and tells you that "your" console isn't doing all that well, or at least not as well as you might hope.
So in reality, this thread gives a perspective to a lot more people than the detailed threads I (or you) make.

I doubt it. It's at less than 47% now, at 46.7%
I believe it would need close to 400K of sales to get rounded back to 48%.

But it's a very flawed perspective because as those percentages change, what they mean changes significantly and quickly. Since people are talking about the Wii reaching 50%, it would make more sense to talk about how many units behind 50% it is.
For reference, the Wii is 4.24 million units from 50%.

I know, I know. I agree with you. I just saw that my post could turn this thread into a flame war (potentially), so I said it and took away the point.
As long as we have both kinds of threads, we're fine. But if these suddenly take overhand, we're in trouble.
