Forums - Gaming - What would you like as a proganist?

I'd like to see more evil protagonists... and more good protagonists that aren't idiots.

It seems like modern games mostly have heroes that are either Anti-heroes or Idiots like Goku.

No characters like Superman... or REALLY smart main characters.

The main character always seems to be a tank who needs someone else to be his brains. Why can't the main character be smart for once?

In the same vain the only REAL villain main characters we seem to get are in the sandbox games where you have to make your motivations.

For once i'd like to see a game that was evil and the character was actually well developed and you found out everything about him. Not the "oh he has an excuse" way either... or a "Is anything really evil" justification for said evil character.

Just an outright full portrait of an evil person maincharacter. The kind of character that almost makes you feel dirty and horrible for the acts you commit as him.

I think it would really be a whole new level of storytelling.  That is likely avoided because of said issues.  Very few games deal with negatives in general.  The hero ALWAYS gets the girl etc.  One of the best games i've ever played was so great because the main character didn't get the girl. Infact the love interest ends up with a complete dick you hate and are meant to hate.

Well he wasn't a complete dick but you hated him because of how the story played out... etc.  It was great powerful storytelling.

what's that game called?

Anything realistic.

I always thought the protaganists/antagonists from just about every game were stupid. They often remind me of bad Hollywood movies, where the "perfect" hero is just in time to save the day from the bad guy who always has plans for world domination along with a cheesy laughter to go with it.

I liked MGS4's Snake - he's far from perfect, has lots of mental/physical probs, and takes a hard beating a few times. You never seen him do fake overexaggerated fighting moves (like Raiden). He's believable, all his imperfections and his lack of typical hero traits along with the fact that he always seems troubled, are what make him interesting.

Still though, I always hated the idea of the whole world counting on one person alone to save everything. You see it in so many games but for me, it's gotten stupid, old, and boring.

Snake is not the only believeable protagonist

Bakuretsu Hunter - Sorcerer Hunter.

i would love to play as a character that feels more vulnerable and less heroic, a character who can only take one maybe two hits before they die, someone or something who makes me feel uneasy every time i come into contact with an enemy cause i'll know one hit and they're dead.

nintendo and sega fan since i was old enough to hold a game controller.

note: my games collection on my profile is only 20ish% complete, i've got a boatload of 360,saturn and dreamcast games to add and a few ps3 games, thanks :)
