Forums - Gaming - Apple to take over the living room?

Short reply:

Not my living room.

Long reply:

I own an Ipod, I own a Mac (that I never use, I hate Mac OS)

I will never buy another piece of Apple hardware. I don't like the user interfaces, I don't like the way people talk about the "greatness" of apple products... It's like a cult.

I totally agree, they all seem to think that they are better than you because they use something other than Windows.... I just dont get it.

I have an iPod, but that is mostly because the rest of my family uses iTunes. They will never take over the living room because things like the PS3 and Xbox can basically do the same thing as Apple TV, and they do far more

Apple is for people who feel like they have to be different, by being like everyone else.

Yes MacOS can do everything Windows can do, except play bad ass games.  Yes it can play bad ass games when you dual boot - for extra money.

THe ipod is cool because it does more than every other mp3 player for the price and the size with a nice screen.  But notice price is in that last sentance.

ibooks or what ever they're called are so ridiculously over priced that every time I see a mac owned by a student I want to hit them over the head with it.

Apple:

$1099

2.1 GHz Core2Duo

1 GB memory

120 GB HDD

Sony Vaio Laptop(Not a Cheap PC company):

$749

2.0 Core2Duo

3 GB RAM

250 GB HDD

That's $350 for less computer.

I wouldn't mind if ONE Mac owner would admit they bought because it made them feel special or they liked the way it looked, but they never say that they say it was such a good deal... it included all this software.

This is the software included:

  • Cover Flow
  • Mail
  • Quick Look
  • iChat
  • Stacks
  • Safari
  • Time Machine
  • Spaces

Most of that is just part of the OS or the Browser.

Oh, a calender program.... oooh.

You can get good open source software nowadays...

God, I hate dolphin hugging, VW driving, macbook totin', Obama pin wearin' hippies... and I'm voting for Obama.

These people drive me absolutely nuts....argh.

They want to come into the living room.... Fuck them.  I will not have apple corrupting my TV, my videogames, or my children.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I don't believe any of your stats. The Imac is generally accepted to have about 5% market share, and that in 2007 it had somewhere closer to 8% of all computer sales. So double all your stats and you'll find that the Ipod has 150% of the mp3 player market :P

I will never buy apple product in my whole life. I hate this company

His numbers are shipped. Mac  may have sold 5% in 2007, but shipments are 3%

Well... I can't say it... I'm a graphic Designer so I have to use a mac because Windows does a bad job in off-set printing.. but one thing that I like about the mac is installing software.. where Windows trows thousands of files everywhere.. most mac applications are using just one file.. (which contains al the files for the program) it leaves you with a much cleaner computer.. and that it doesn't constantly asks if you are sure that you want to do something...

It's not true. Every time they release those numbers they don't include several factors.

1. It's out of pre-built retail revenue.

2. Mac cost more, so their amount of revenue sharing doesn't accurately reflect the proportion of people who buy PCs.  The PC I bought before my current monster rig was $350 (after rebates, 479 before) with the Moniter, Keyboard, Mouse, Printer, and Speakers).

3. People upgrade there PCs, and hold on to them longer. People, generally, do not upgrade Macs.

4. Many off the shelf PC's are immediately stuffed with better graphics cards, HDDs, etc. This is not included in the revenue.

5. Retail revenue only includes the major manufacturers.  No custom built PCs, no small warehouse built, etc.

6. PC/Windows software revenue is so far beyond Mac software revenue that it's not even worth mentioning.

Good God, I wish some of you would shut the **** up about Apple users. There are loads of Mac users on this forum who don't talk about their computers or use Macs for very specific reasons and aren't obnoxious about it.

You think Apple users are annoying? Just ask a Linux user what he thinks about Windows sometime... I guarantee you that you'll have an almost irresistible urge to punch said Linux troll in the face by minute five. They're even more self-righteous and annoying than the most ardent Apple supporter.

Are there annoying Mac users? Hell yes. I've owned Macs for almost a decade now and I can't stand Mac forums because of the few diehards who won't shut up about the brilliance of Steve Jobs' stool sample they lifted from his house that morning. Is that the majority of Mac users? Not even close.

In short, just shut the hell up about Mac users. Most of us just use them for work or play... Just another tool, like your PC. There's no worship going on.

You are not the average Mac consumer.  I am not talking about their Pro Computers, I am talking about their Personal Computing Bread and Butter Home Crap.

@Rocketpig: You are right, linux users are worse.

@ steven, well I have a very similar computer to my mum, those hers has a slightly faster processor, but mine is £400 cheaper and it has blu-ray and it looks just as good
