Forums - Gaming - Capcom trying to blame piracy for poor DMC4 (PC) sales?

Another major issue is that it's not on Steam...

I think they should worry when games that actualy suit PC architecture are selling better on consoles like RTS's.

obviously piracy is a factor... by no means the factor though

Many games do fine, so piracy isn't the answer to everything (although it can be nice to have something external to blame). Yeah, there are lots of pirates, but there are also lots of people who buy PC games.

As steven787 said, whether the game has online features or not makes a big difference. People would buy a game like COD4 so they can play online without having to find cracked servers, but DMC4 has no online features at all so a pirated version has the exact same features as the legit one.

You said it a lot better than I did.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

"We released our game on PC 6 months after consoles and sales are awful.  It's the pirates' fault! Waaaah!"

Idiots.

The thing is: can you really blame piracy? Most pirates are only playing the game because they didn't pay for it. Thats why console piracy is popular in 3rd world countries because if they couldn't get the games for cheap/free, they won't bother buying the even the console in the first place so these are not lost sales, they are more like sales that were never even there

I have no idea why they would even make DMC4 for the PC. I think of it as a strictly console game and can't really fathom how mouse and keyboard controls would feel. I guess I'll go download and see. :P j/k

Because Capcom like to try and milk every single game for every last penny? Maybe it didn't sell so well because it is incredibly meh?

PC/360/PSP/DS/PS2/ and even the Wii, suffers from piracy. And right now PC and PSP piracy is rediculous, with the 360 not too far behind. So what do they expect??? Every game platform this gen is sufferring from piracy [excluding the ps3 for the moment], some worse than others, and the PC is at the top of the food chain. Next time capcom, don't let MS decide where you put your games....

That sounds plausible, but is it really true? Do most single-player games fail?

Piracy is a huge reason that PC gaming is niche and not mainstream. Companies lose so much money to PC game piracy that they give up on it. So if there is a sequel to a game the PC may not get it where the first one was released for the PC.

Capcom should not be complaining as DMC 4's main target was consoles. I know the game sold decently on the two HD consoles.
