Forums - Microsoft - Taking Xbox 360 to Japan

Yes, funny, I know - taking the 360 to Japan where no one else will have one.  So, save the comments.

I'll be living in Japan for a while starting in September and I'm going to take my consoles.  If anyone knows, will I need a transformer, or can I just directly plug in to Japanese power?  Thanks, if anyone knows or had experience.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Oh god, I thought you meant a Transformer (sorry, had to):

You could ask Final-Fan, I believe he's been there. He might tell you about it. In here, they say that the Japanese 360 uses 220v and the American one uses 120v. If I understand correctly, it means their plug should deliver more than enough power for yours if theirs needs more in the first place anyway. I'm a newb, so don't take what I said in consideration.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

You might just want to find a broken Xbox 360 power adapter.

Look at the power plug on your X360: it's modular and removable. All you'd need is the Japanese cord to plug into their wall if their plugs are any different from American ones....Could find one for free, or real cheap.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

@Shump - LOL

@MrStickball - the Japan and US power supply are the same, although Japan doesn't have the 3rd ground connection. The Voltage is 100 V in Japan 50Hz/60Hz - different East and West, compared to our 110 V. The PSU specs are within the range, so I don't think it should be a problem. I just want to verify with someone else before I attempt it. Better to be safe then sorry, as they always say.

Your 360 is a US 360? If so you should have no problems regarding how much power is supplied. Japan uses 100v outlets and the USA uses 110v, so they are pretty much interchangeable. Though as somebody else mentioned the Japanese outlets do not have the 3rd pin (the ground plug), so you may need an adapter for it (3 pin -> 2 pin adapter). Or you could buy a Japanese 360 cord ;-p
I've been using my US PS2 in Japan for the past 2 years and I've had no problems with it. My 360 is a Japanese 360. :)

Just curious, but where will you be living in Japan?

I'll be in Kumamoto.  I think it should work ok, so I'll just go ahead and take it.

Thanks guys for the info.

yeah that the good thing to have the PSU outside the box... you just have to change the cord.... I brought my XB from France I can't plug it here in USA, I need a specific modulator that cost around the same price than the XB on Ebay so not worth it....
So see one more advantage to have the brick outside the box :P

Well I'll give you an advice. Don't fucking buy any Japanese games. In 90% of all cases the Japanese games are region locked.

Hey you are going to be in Kumamoto? I live about 2 hours South of there in Kagoshima.

Nice to see some VGChartz members in Japan.

Anyways, you have a few choices. Change the part of the cord with the three plugs to a 2 plug style connector. You know like the cord for a standard desktop computer. You can get this at any computer store. They also make power strips that are the US style with 3 plugs. You could get that if you want to ground it as well. The end of the power strip has a little green wire that you screw to one of the screws on your outlet. I think changing the cord is the cheapest and easiest way.

I have a Japanese 360, so I don't have this problem. Also, if you are worried about buying games. play-asia.com is a good place to purchase US games that will work on your system. They have free shipping to Japan as well.

What are you planning on doing in Japan?
