Forums - Sales Discussion - Will RE4:Wii Edition meet sales expectations?

I thought this was interesting as we rarely get to hear what a company internally believes a game will sell. But according to the link below reported by Cubed3 Capcom at a fiscal meeting revealed their sales expections for RE 4 :Wii Edition and Umbrella Chronicles.

It's as follows:

RE4: Wii Edition

  • Expected: 420,000
  • Japan's Total so Far: 82,344 (5 Weeks) 5,979 last week
  • U.S. Total so Far:    134,954 (2 Week)
  • Other Territories: ???
  • So Total so far w is: 217,298

I imagine it could make another 150,000 in Japan and US alone, with another 100,000 in other territories, I'm sure others could provide much better estimates(and I hope they do), either way it seems on track to break estimates.

RE: Umbrella Chronicles was estimated to sell: 620,000 I imagine if RE4 breaks expectations they'll increase their estimate for this title. As I'm thinking it's rather low, and perhaps reveals a little insight on Capcom's hesitation to embrace the Wii as some other companies have.( I'm not saying they haven't, just haven't increased their offerings the same way Namco and Sega have.)

Even their Devil May Cry 4 expectation is 1.8m WW on PS3 and 360. All three estimates seem low, and very do-able.

could they have low expectations since its just a port of a last generation game?

Sure I wouldn't argue with that. But what I am surprised by is their sales expectations of RE:UC that's a new game, expected to only sell 620,000 WW, I'd figure they could manage higher then that on the Wii, for crying out loud Red Steel did, and I'm asuming the RE franchise a bigger userbase and a more universal appeal, and I'm hoping better reviews will give a 1 mill+ in sales WW. But we'll see, they may feel the on-rails shooter style will hurt it, but it should be great fun with the wii-mote.

I expect a big drop off in RE 4 this week in the US. I imagine the people who wanted it bought it at release or first week.

As to those expectations. They might meet them but it will be close, it won't be higher than expected. I am doubtful though...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I'm positive that RE:UC can break 1 million if it's a good game.

From what I've been reading, word-of-mouth has been spreading a lot about RE4.  It's a high quality game and it surprises people by breaking the standard RE mold, so it should have some reasonably long legs.  Many people who don't like Resident Evil much (myself included) absolutely love RE4.

Maybe they don't think RE:UC will be very good.

Could they be afraid to commit development resources to an adventure game on a console they see as being only for party games?

Just got back form Saturn (no I haven´t lost it, Saturn is one of the biggest elektro stores in germany) RE4 cost 50 euros, did I miss something ???? thought it would be 30, how much is it in the U.S. 50 bucks for a remake is a little much if you´ve played it, for those who haven´t it´s a fair price.

I was pretty sure it was 30 bucks, but I haven't bought it so I can't say for sure.
