Forums - Sony - After renting a PS3, here are my thoughts about it (and Metal Gear Solid 4)

I have to disagree on the quality of Act 5. I expected it to be cut-scene heavy, but i didnt realise just how cut scene heavy it would be.

After you get past the frogs and gekkos, you've pretty much done, save for that rubbish boss fight.

Pffft

This kind of comment make me laugh a bit. I mean, Kojima clearly stated that Metal Gear Solid 4 is Snake's final chapter and the end of the series as we know it, so what were people expecting?

He linked every single plot hole from the others games, and concluded the series in a very intelligent way. I was a bit disappointed by the things Big Mama said, because I thought she just concluded the whole Patriot thing too fast (missing links from the previous MSX games), but then I was surprised that he got back on the subject with Big Boss's arrival (wow, that was unexpected by the way).

Then again, I think you have to play the other games in order to appreciate what Kojima did. I know I did! ^_^

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Interesting - good post. I was one of the day 1 PS3 owners, and I was happy with it from then on. I was big into Resistance, as it was really the first 'next-gen' FPS that I played.

I like the XMB because it's very simple, the options are all in the same place - and while there are a lot of categories, it makes it easier (to me) to find what you need. I feel like someones with my 360 that it takes me a while to find what I'm looking for. Luckily, I don't have to search through the options much, unless I'm changing Routers (for the 500th time...but I think I have a good one now!).

I had the same feeling about the installs at first. I didn't like them because all it does is make it take longer. I got over that pretty quick though, now it doesn't bother me one bit, probably just because it's something you come to expect. At the same time, I have a few friends with PS3 that don't have internet. So I've been able to copy out some demo's to let them check out, which is really nice for them. And being able to copy data is nice - like you said with your MGS data - you don't own a PS3 now, but if you buy one one day, you can still have your save data as long as you keep it on the thumb drive.

I also agree with Pristine..it should have at least been an option for an Act at a time or the whole thing. Some people have put their own HD in the console, they could have 500 gigs - so a 10 gig install would be nothing. But that's somewhat irrelevent though, because Sony limits the amount of space available for installs, but I think an option would be nice for the special circumstance like this where you have 4-5 installs altogether.

As far as Linux, I'd still really like to read peoples experiences with it. I've really considered doing it, but like kn said - I'd want a larger HD first.

I totally agree with both of you guys. I can only hope Konami is going to bring an update in order to remedy this ''issue,'' if I may say that.

The demos on PS3 don't really do anything justice.

The downloading is kind of annoying at times but it just takes some getting used to.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking actually. I might just rent the ''recommended'' games one day and just try to play them as a game, not a PS3 exclusive that every single fanboys were praising and stuff. That's probably what shocked me, I thought Resistance was just a generic shooter, so what was so special about it? How is Resistance 2 going to be better?

But I said I did like Uncharted and Super Stardust HD. When I finally get a PS3, I'll have more chance to play the other games.

The pixel junk eden demo was a perfect introduction to the game. I am addicted to it.

Also, MGS4 really needs to be played with a dual shock. It adds a lot to the game.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

i am glad you experienced a game that i can play everyday.

the ps3 is a good system, the installs can be annoying sometimes, but i am not really in a big rush to play games i dont mind waiting

heh. Yeah, then installs can be annoying, but you get used to them eventually. (I don't even notice them now) The thing that always amazes me about the PS3 is how amazing it's multimedia capabilities are. I mena, NOW it finally has some good games, but these are so totally overshadowed by how good it is at playing everything you throw at it that it makes the flaws in it's games seem larger. (ie. the installs) Oh well, I still love the thing....

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it
