Speaking as someone who owns only a PS3 and has no plans to own an X360. Gears looks better - overall. KZ2 has certain aspects that superior (and nobody could objectively say otherwise.) Still, Gears looks more interesting and dynamic than KZ2 (in the 2 videos posted above.)
In the end, it all comes down to what aspects you favor most...
Do we know the framerate for Gears? I thought I heard 60, while Guerilla said KZ2 is 30. I could be wrong, though :-S
From a technical standpoint (comparing screenshots), I'd say Killzone (and this is coming from a major Gears fan). However, I'd be sad for Sony if it DIDN'T, having had three extra years' development time.
@thekitschensink: If KZ2 is in 60 fps, it wins without a doubt. I have a hard time believing that's the case though, since many PS3/360 games can barely keep 30 fps without stuttering.
Being a 360/Wii owner, this is one of my pet peeves about the 360... The more technically advanced console is the one which has the most trouble running smoothly.

killzone 2 and gears of war 2 look amazing howver we cannot judge them yet as they still have months of development time left things can change for better or worse

Well, I still hold that we cannot pass judgement until we know exact FPS and resolution for both games.
And most people would say MGS4 is 720p, but it is 768p, so I wont take 720p for an answer :P

Resolution is a big "shrug" for me... With my 32'' TV, I honestly don't see any difference between true-HD and upscaled-HD games such as Halo 3 and Ninja Gaiden 2.
I want good framerate above all (after gameplay and all the other non-technical stuff of course). If KZ2 or Gears of War 2 have to slightly lower resolution to maintain a stable 30 fps, so be it!

Sure, gears is pretty, but killzone creams it.
Killzone 2 is undoubtedly one the best looking game on the PS3, but with all the visual quality and effects, some sacrifices had to be made. As we learned at Leipzig Games Convention, Killzone 2 will only run at 30 fps in 720p, not 1080p as many had expected (and as Sony had promised for so many PS3 games). On the other hand, the game looks so good and is so detailed that it’s probably worth only getting 720p. And 30 fps.
Update: Several other sites, including IGN, confirm that it’s 720p/30fps only.

It's not a knock on the game, just take it as information guys. I thought I read somewhere that Epic was shooting for 60fps for Gears 2, but don't quote me on that since I can't find a link.
It would definitely make this comparison more interesting, as the two are basically equal as it is (with the slight edge to KZ2 in my opinion).
IMO, i don't care if a game runs at .5 FPS, as long as it looks,runs good.
The human eye doesn't even detect the FPS..so why bother...
