Uh... almost everything in that scene is geometry, such as the buildings in the background.
Unless you mean the smoke, which is still geometry. But maybe thats what you meant by "3d graphic".

The buildings in the background take up 80% of the image and the buildings in the near (bottom right), which are actually Geometry are not that detailed. Which leaves us with the guy and a rail. |
The buildings in the background are not a skybox, its actual geometry. The damaged buildings closet to the camera have tons of polys on them.
You should probably watch the video that shows off that level.

Killzone 2... 4+ years of development
Gears of War 2... 2 Years development
Killzone 2 better have better graphics.
But, really... Who cares about graphics, when gameplay is king... Remember Haze? Graphically good, gameplay stinks.
Hmmm, the debate rages strong....
I stand by my original point that with one game an FPS and the over an over the shoulder shooter, it isnt really a fair comparison.
Much fairer would have been Killzone 2 v Halo 3 or MGS4 v Gears 2.
In all fairness, independant opinions should be the ones that count (i.e wii owners) as they arent going to be biased.
Or y'know, everyone could keep defending their own consoles game. Whatever

Some more in the mid distance covered by lots of smoke and these very far off buildings. It looks amazing but its very similar to the good old parallax scrolling of old 2D games. It looks like much more than there actually is. If your screen is totally filled by nearby Geometry like in the third screenshot I provided it looks far less amazing. And yes even this looks pretty nice. But not better than Uncharted or Killzone2. http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14232680/gears-of-war-2/videos/gearsofwar2_hd_1.html |
The third screen you posted is multiplayer, which looks considerably worse than the single player game.
And the nearby geometry is hardly simple. I just think that you cant identify detail created by polygons from detail created by normal mapping.

Two visually stunning games with infinitesimal differences in graphics.
