Motion blur, exactly what all PS3 games have compared to their 360 counterpart.

(...)

Mmmm, never heard of that. Any sources?

In my opinion, Gears of War 2 looks better. A notable difference from the first one.

Pixel Art can be fun.

IMO, i don't care if a game runs at .5 FPS, as long as it looks, runs good.

The human eye doesn't even detect the FPS..so why bother...

Ummm... mind telling me how it's possible for a .5fps game to run good? XD  The framerate IS how good it runs.

Lol, that's a slide-show. This post just goes to show how much most people really know about graphics, let alone enough to do a comparison of two games.

Lol, it was hypothetical, I know it isn't possible :P

What i ment was that as long as the game runs good, you won't notice a thing...or you mean to tell me that when you play a game you can tell how many FPS it's running just by playing it ?

I can definitely tell when there's slowdown and it drops. And in some genres, I can tell if it's 30 fps or 60 fps (although some clever tricks like motion blur can make 30 fps look much better; incidentally, the same reason why movies are fine at just 24 fps).

Yeah :D we can all tell when theres a sustantial frame rate drop...it saddly happens allot this gen ><

but i'm just saying that as long as it runs well/looks good in 30FPS, why complain?

@MakoInfused: That's exactly what I was saying too. (although 60 fps would be preferable... but this is a shooter so it's not that bad)

IGN rates E3

Best Graphics Technology:
Gears of War 2

Developer: Epic Games
Publisher: Microsoft
Release Date: November 2008
Shown at E3 on: X360
Also Coming to: N/A

There were a lot of beautiful looking games at E3 2008, but none held our eye as long as Gears of War 2. Some very deserving titles made our short list, but at the end of the day, it was Epic's uncanny ability to squeeze magic out of the (upgraded) Unreal Engine 3 that wowed us most.

From the updated soft-body physics to the fantastic water effects and realistic cover destruction, Gears 2 reminded us why Tim Sweeney and the tech team at Epic are some of the best in the business. Not only does Gears 2 look pretty in pictures and HD videos, it also runs like a dream. In our lengthy time playing the Horde co-op mode at a Microsoft event at E3, we saw no slowdown, tearing, crashes or hiccups whatsoever. Here's hoping the finished product looks as good on launch day as it did in L.A

Runner(s)-Up:

Crysis: Warhead (PC - Electronic Arts)
Fallout 3 (X360 - Bethesda Softworks)
Killzone 2 (PS3 - Sony Computer Entertainment)

I will go with this!

IGN > 1000 PS3 fanboys opinions

Hell man take a look at gametrailers i think a lot more people pay attention to them over ign because theyre on tv

Maybe this is just me (and I'm not a MS fanboy, the only next gen console I have is a Wii), but isn't the fact that you can debate this at all a decisive win for GoW2?

I mean, KZ2 was first revealed at E3 '05. That's before the 360 even came out. If it releases in early '09 like it's supposed to, that's a 3.5 year development cycle at least. GoW2 is slated to release exactly 2 years after GoW1. I would rather have 2 fun games rather than 1 fun game with slightly improved graphics.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Does Gears 2 have deferred rendering or lens flare?

I'm sure it has lens flare, but it doesn't have defferred rendering, however; but all defferred rendering means is that the engine won't render non-visible polygon fragments, which reduces the amount of fill required to draw the on screen image... actually all 3d dreamcast games used defferred rendering,

anyway if gears really runs at 60, which I doubt, it'd look absolutely incredible, and really blow away killzone and every other game on console, but both seem to run at 30 so I'll stand by Gears looking better anyway

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone's saying KZ. Baffles me :3
Can someone show me why it looks so impressive? (a video maybe...)

Cos I'm just not seeing it. Maybe there's just too many ps3 fanboys here.

This is a pretty good video.  Its 720p and 8min longs, the full download is over 500mb, but the HQ stream looks pretty good too.

They shouldn't even be compared. Gears is a 3rd person shooter and Killzone is 1st person shooter. I love how gears shows you a perfect view of your character but you get a huge vast distance view. It's beautiful.
