Forums - Sales - Anyone else noticing a lot of Wiis easily available in stores?

Last saturday Zelda and the new color DS where launched, so there where a few DS available, of course, only the new colors, but by the Monday I went again, there were no more.

Here in Japan is almost popular culture to define the Wii as something that is almost imposible to find, here in my lab they want to buy one for researching on their acceleration sensor, but even they cannot find one (Im talking about Tokyo University).

Meanwhile, there is a los of PSP and Tons of PS3, they even gave you one PS3 if you have Yahoo as a ISP for only 100 USD.

There are some used DS you can find in some stores, but there are no Wiis, there is even a Japanese page that tracks the shipments on line for every electronic good in any store in Japan, and all the times I have tried to look for a Wii there is none, so there is virtually no Wiis on sale in Japan.

I think passing a few on a shelf is still not widely available. but even if they started selling 70000 a week (instead of 85) in NA that is still crazy for first year.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Hontou ni?! I've heard that in Japan the price is already much lower in stores then the actual listing price but that it would go that far. Seems like the price tag isn't the issue in Japan. Good to know about the WII demand in Japan and the availibility. Perhaps Nintendo has hold a bunch of WII's before the big release of Dragon Quest Swords in about 2 weeks.

Personally, I'd doubtful that there is anyone who has seen Wii systems available in stores for months who isn't either lying or confused; I must admit that I initially saw some display boxes in a Walmart in March and thought they were Wii systems. Sites like WiiTracker.com and iTrackr.com still report very low availability online and instore so I couldn't imagine a region that had a high availability; you could make a decent profit on the system by buying it, selling it on ebay for a small ($25-$50) profit with almost no effort.

Certainly, supply is getting closer to demand and I'm told retailers are now willing to take deposits and pre-orders on Wii systems again; the steady supply means that they can predict how long it will take them to get a system in stock and sell it.

I've seen one Wii for sale in my country. One.

If I had known then how insanely hard it would to to get one, I'd have bought it instantly. Ah well, I think I'll just wait a while then. Do that with every console anyway (well, I did buy the GBA-SP on launchday) and that tends to get me a cheaper console, cheaper games and the gen-one hardware issues worked out :)

This is good news, now Nintendo can boom over the holiday season.

Ive seen wii's instores for the past couple of months now

Me too....................................................I've seen them walking out in bags. But for real I did go into Walmart and see 8 Wii's in the case, I left to go get my friend cause he has been wanting to buy one and when i got but (in a hour) I saw two people walking out with one each. When we got back to the case all of them was gone.

Lol I was waiting for leo-j to comment. Just great! Yeah other than leo-j the topic seems fairly honest. Obviously stock differs quite a bit by location. I have yet to see any in stock other than the one I bought. I waited outside in the snow in front of a target for an hour in late January for a ticket. They still do this every Sunday that they have a shipment, though usually the tickets aren't gone till the doors open now.

I really didn't want to get a Wii, but my daughter played with a classmates and wants one so I've been diligently looking. I go into a Target, Walmart, Toys R Us, GS, EB games, or other electronics retailer regularly to look for one. I've looked in Austin, Texas, Conroe, TX, Montgomery, TX, and Houston, TX as I travel those areas. I've not seen a single unit on a shelf in any of these towns since launch. Maybe Nintendo just doesn't ship to Texas.

I don't even ask the store employees any more as I always get an annoyed look and some kind of "good freakin' luck" or soemting similar as a response.

When the average person can walk into a store (any major store) and find Wii in stock then I'll say supply has met demand.  As of now, demand well outstrips supply in the U.S. as a whole.  A "few" anecdotal "I saw one in the wild!" posts doesn't get us anywhere near there yet.

I hate trolls.
