About two weeks ago, while I was on vacation, I saw a second-hand PS2 Slim on a French 'vide grenier' (a kind of fair where people sell all kinds of used stuff) for 75 euros (including two controllers and memory cards). Naturally, I bought it, because I figured I could get a lot of games I always wanted to play for a very small price. It has proven a good move, because I have so far been able to purchase GTA: San Andreas for five euros and Final Fantasy XII, Viewtiful Joe 2 and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for ten each (a local retailer sells second hand games, which helps a LOT). But since the PS2 has an immense library of good games, I'm kinda looking for advice: what are the games I should buy if I see them for a reasonable price, and what are the top games I should actively search for? I'm mostly looking for single-player experiences, but I tend to like good games regardless of the genre. The only genres I can't get into are sports and racing games. For myself, I figured this:

Nice you pretty much have all the best ones picked out. Like another user said get Resident Evil 4 if you haven't played it. You probably have with your Wesker profile picture. The Metar Gear Solid & God of War series are a must.

My other recommendations:
You may also like to check out TRAPT - its a action/puzzle game where you set up different traps to take out enemies invading a castle.
Check reviews for Indigo Prophecy too. It's a third person adventure thriller where you play as the murderer and the detective hunting him down. I really enjoyed the story.
Look into Zone of the Enders 2, Twisted Metal Black, and the Onimusha series. Onimusha 3 was excellent.
Oh and I highly recommend Balder's Gate Dark Alliance if you have a friend to play 2-player local co-op through the story mode.

I might be alone on this, but I really enjoyed FFX-2.  If you like FFX, I'd recommend youtubing clips of it to see if it'd interest you or not (it's definitely not for everyone).

Also, someone recommended Dragon Quest VIII - I second that.
