The 360 sells well in America just b/c that is MS's strategy. They just care more about America than Japan, Europe, etc. It has worked alright so far, and would have worked much better if the RROD wasn't an issue, imho. Think about it, America has the people with the most free time and money on their hands, so MS is putting all of their energy where they will get the most bang for their buck.
I would think that the PS3 would have to sell 1.2 or even 1.3 times as much software WW before they could reach MS's level of profitability and the PS3 is only about .75 or .8 when compared to the 360's week to week software sales WW, so it still has a long way to go.
There are downsides to this strategy of course. MS won't be able to grow as well as the other two b/c it is limiting itself by the 360 not really being a world brand. I think that this would be a good strategy for the first couple of years but as time goes on, and the PS3 gets cheaper, it will look a lot more attractive to the 2nd and 3rd world countries, and Sony will overshadow the 360. So, great strategy early on, but its baaaaaaddddd for the long haul.
