Forums - Microsoft - Why does the 360 sell so well in America?

ChronotriggerJM said:

I'm not sure if you've noticed the trend that a games quality has little bearing on a games success. You have to market, reviews can only carry something so far.

Games like...
Bioshock,
Mass Effect,
Ninja Gaiden 2
Unreal Tournament 3
Lost Odyssey
Burnout Paradise... etc etc etc. All together probably haven't sold what Halo 3 has.

Having the most "AAA" titles doesn't mean anything. Why is the PS3 outselling the 360 on a regular basis if this wasn't true? Why does the 360 only really "perform" outstandingly in America? Microsoft sure as hell knows why.

The arguement that anything could be "based off the games" is absurd. You and I both know that whatever console you pick, you'll have more good games to choose from than you would care to pay for. This is what I meant by "Both Consoles have the games". Only fanboy blinders would prevent a PS3 owner from saying the 360's got no games, AND vice versa.

I buy based off games. I also buy almost all the games I want. All you have to do is get 1 console and one handheld straight away and a few new games, then buy a small amount of new games. Then once prices fall on other hardware, buy those. Then buy used games for 15%-35% the cost of the game in new condition.

 So do Europeans. So much...that some countries had to outlaw certain shooters games. Americans enjoy Action adventure games and fun party titles as well. Thanks for the nice stereotype. Ignorance is bliss.

@Sansui, while most of that is true, I also strongly believe that the PS3 is the better "value" as a console. You just get a whole lot more bang for your buck so to say. I can see the reasons to not be interested in a 360 :P

Europe not catching onto live might have something to do with them not wanting to pay for online gaming... if you play your console online for 4 years, that's at least $200 extra >_>;;

As far as RROD issues are concerned, why is it only America is fine putting up with them?

I honestly think I asked the right question :P I'm just worried that America's average intelligence, and money to spend, is having something to do with it XD

Chrono, this isn't a personal attack, but I'd be careful, there, buddy. That's not a good road to go down. Every society across the world has thier share of exceptionally intelligent people as well as those destined for less intellecutal, blue-collar pursuits. I used to think that the Japanese were exceptionally smart people. After spending time in the country, they are no different than anywhere else. There are intellecutals and garbage collectors. Professors and jack-hammer operators. Stock brokers and dump-truck drivers.

If the U.S. was so bad, why do we still have so many people coming from foreign countries to get a higher education in our universities? Students from all over the world flock to U.S. institutions for computer, engineering, science, medical, and other technical degrees.

Americans take a lot of heat from abroad for not being "worldly". Part of the reason is that we don't HAVE to. The vast majority of Americans haven't seen a significant portion of our own country much less other ones. Being ignorant to the ways and cultures of other countries doesn't have anything to do with intelligence...

LOL yeah I'm just giving our country crap for the ugly stuff like Bell curving the tests standards, increased poverty, lowering economy, re-electing bush, lowering IQ :( Stuff like that, I realize every country's got it's probs and stuff, but man were not on the high end of the stick at the moment >< I'm just taking my pot shots :P Many a people come out here to learn as well because it's cheaper, more available, better credentialed, and you can make a killing here in America being a business owner/doctor/astronaut,??? y'know xD I just think it's kinda sad that I have to go near a Starbucks to eavesdrop on people that sound like they know what they're talking about :(

@Scat, well anyone that's played an online game from both PS3 and 360 will tell you that they're not THAT different. Im fact most of the time for me the PS3 version is better :/ I like my servers. The "value" of xbox live is that it has alot more to offer(and pay for mind you), than the PS3. There is no way I can beat around the value bush on that one :/ The PSN isn't nearly as far behind as people like to make it out to be.

@Mrstick Yeah I know XD But they're doing better than we are atm >< America needs to get some priorities strait ;-;

ChronoTriggerJM, stop insulting America! And Bush isn't a creidble argument, whether you like him or not. 1/3 or less of eligable Americans vote in the national election. Of that, 51% voted for bush. So that means... less than 1/6 of the country voted for and like Bush 4 years ago... and fewer Americans like him now. His approval rating is dismally low. Many Reublicans I know don't like him. You can say Americans are stupid becuase they voted for Bush, but it's a LIE!

Heh, I think one of the reasons it does so well in America is that it isn't as strong a PC market as Europe.

Oh, and CT, this is the ONLY warning you will ever get for bigotry.

Actually Diebold admitted that the election poll machines in which Bush won could've been flipped 51/49 if they chose to.

Actually, the 360 isn't selling SO WELL, it's selling relatively well compared to the disappointing non-ps2 level sales of the PS3. The only console that's selling SO WELL is the Wii. (of course, ds as portable also).

 Yes, but obviously you notice there are those that don't wish the 360 well. It has proven that it's in the game with Sony's PS3. Alot of loyalists aren't happy with the performance value. In fact Microsoft plans on exposing alot of Sonys weaknesses and they have.

so many people are misinformed >.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

No, Europeans don't love shooters at all. Compare American sal.es with European sales of most FPS games and you'll find big differences.
