PixelJunk Eden Review

Welcome to your new Eden.

8.5 Presentation
The Eden hub world has both its ups and downs, but overall it works fairly well. The ability to upload videos directly to YouTube is also a big plus.
7.5 Graphics
It all comes down to artistic design in Eden's case and the overall look and feel is great. However, many levels really only use one base color, so it can look drab at times.
8.0 Sound
There are very few sound effects, but what's there is cool and unique. However, the soundtrack is stellar, as reserved and subtle as the art design while just as engaging as the gameplay.
8.5 Gameplay
It's simple, but very addictive. With your only real abilities being jumping, grabbing and swinging, there's a surprising amount of complexity in the mixture of the three.
7.5 Lasting Appeal
For a downloadable title, there's a lot of time to be spent here collecting everything. The three-player mode adds a good bit to the replayability as well.
8.4
Impressive
OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

It deserves the praise, I haven't had a chance to buy the full game yet but the demo was addictive as hell and I'm definitely going to be buying the full game. So simple, yet so fun and not bad to look at either.

8.4 was generous considering how much they ripped it.

The demo was pretty insane. I will probably buy the game once I finish some of my other downloadable titles (Elefunk, Wolf, and 1942: Joint Strike).

I played the demo, was good and simple. Didn't get a chance to try 2 player on the demo, can 2 people play the demo?

I'd by more PSN titles but at the moment, I'd just prefer more PS1 classics. There are a lot i want to see but we haven't had any in weeks.

Hmm, pie.

The game definitely deserves the score IGN gave it. A few flaws prevent it from reaching AAA status -- but its definitely an 8.4 - 8.8...

I do wonder what Gardens 6 - 10 will be like after reading their review.

Even the demo was really hard, I expect this game to have a lot of replay value and have a lot of challenge to it.

the game is a lot of fun and it deserves the score its also a very addicting game

It's a good review of a great PSN game. I question the 7.5 for Lasting Appeal. Eden provides at least 15 hours of gameplay plus offline coop. For $10, that is a great value.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

@ Fury )

yes, the demo supports 2 players (maybe even more, but I only have 2 controllers)

@ topic )

The demo was really nice, had much fun with it and the possibility to collect the 5 spectra you can get from different gardens or just all from the first one.
