Forums - Microsoft - XBox 360 Passes Xbox Sales in half the time

I have heard a lot of people say the xbox 360 is set to pass 24.2 million (Original Xbox sales) a year faster than the Xbox, but its actually 3 years if you go by VG Numbers.

Xbox

2001 Launch
2002
2003
2004
2005 Production Stopped
2006
2007 August - 24.2 Mill Sold

2005  Launch
2006
2007
2008 24.2+ Estimated
2009
2010
2011

So even though M$ had 24 million xbox's out there (shops/homes) they didn't sell that many till august 2007, nearly a whole 6 years after it launched, the 360 will pass 24.2 in 3 years.

If I have got something wrong let me know!

Around the Network

Just goes to show that the Xbox brand was destined for greater things then a usual rip-off console that dies out fast. When the Xbox first debuted thats what i thought it was gonna be.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Perhaps so, I guess you can compare the shipments numbers and if Microsoft stopped shipping it in 2005 you have a pretty nice comparison shipment wise. However on the sold info if VGC charts are correct then perhaps. The only real question is when did the bulk of that 24.2 million sold occur. During 2006 how was the xbox selling as well as for 2007?

When did the bulk of that 24.2 sale? Was it still selling well enough in 2006 to count the numbers that way? Shipments maybe the best measure for this because of the sales curve factor.

what do you mean by saying dying fast?? The hardware problems or the huge lifetime of XBOX brand???

360 is doing good,i think it has to do alot with the multi plats and exclusives that microsoft has bought
