Why don't you say the same thing to the OP. Whenever someone says something negative but true about any Sony product you get defensive.

 Come on don't be a hypocrite. Read the OP... How can PSP be "owning" Wii and DS when it sells almost no SW in comparison.

Because you have to understand how brand works in the market. DS was the top brand and then it over saturated the market. PSP at that same time gets a new version a hit game and all of a sudden the mainstream things this is the new "DS" because they need something else. Thus brand switches over to PSP. Now obviously it's not as huge as I just made it out to be because DS still sells a lot on average but that's how it works. If the DS hadn't over saturated the market then it'd probably still be on top.

What Nintendo needs to do is release another new model like the DS Lite and give it advertising props and I'm sure the DS will regain its huge brand appeal because it still tops PSP in software and decent hardware numbers showing its not dead.

But if ya really must ask that is why. Just some very bad timing for DS and very good timing for PSP.

Isn't "owning" an internet based term with no commonly used definition? Last I checked, the term "owned" does not fit into any one definition. And are you claiming that the PSP doesn't sell much software compared to the other consoles? Well, maybe in total. Frankly, the software crown alternates between the big 3 consoles weekly depending on who got the single largest or highest number of new releases that week. That's how the market works in Japan. Only a select few titles have a lasting presence in the charts, and they don't make up the majority of the software sold for said platform each week.

I wouldn't say "Own" seeing as the DS is still the King of Japan in terms of lifetime sales, but the PSP is doing excellent. I would say that it is a combination of a few things. It is a portable media player, has great Japanese targeted games like Monster Hunter, and the DS is already saturated in Japan, allowing for the PSP to have alot less competition. The reason why the Wii isn't selling on par is because it has far less Japanese targetted games for the psp(which will change), and Handhelds seem to be alot more popular in Japan now. Its nice to see 3 platforms thriving in Japan.

I do aknowledge the PSP success in HW sales. But it's not like it's a domination like that we've seen with PS2 or like what we're seeing now with Nintendo in "Others". SW sales are needed to "own" the competition.

And consider that DS is selling very well in Japan atm too.
