The new video standards (480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p) are the same everywhere. The 50 Hz limitation is a thing of the past.

NOOOO! You beat me to it!

HD standards are the same all over the world

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

A PAL DVD on a HD set looks so much better than a NTSC DVD. On SD TVs I never noticed the difference, but with a HD set I just don't want to watch my Region 1 disks.

And if you want to compare technology, America is the most backward when it comes to mobile phones. The Iphone has a great interface but the technology is still playing catchup. I had a touch phone with similar facilities years ago.

History man, NTSC was invented BEFORE Pal, PAL is a higher resolution picture therefore as a tv its better. Dk about games, but i assume it relates somehow. Not sure about resolution and whether NTSC or PAL affect Standard Def. games like PS2 and Wii but HD doesn't matter what so ever.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Lol what a thread.

Take my love, take my land..

Everyone knows that in others a PS3 costs $700. And americans are whining about a $399 one.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

The only thing NTSC really did better than PAL was having a higher framerate. PAL had both better colour reproduction and a higher resolution.

For gamers this does present a problem - what is better? Higher res, better colours or faster gameplay?

Which is why us Europeans played the last few gens using PAL-60 output (60Hz updates, but still PAL colours/resolution) ;)

Lucky us that this analog madness is finally over now in the HD era and we all get the same benefits!
