Forums - Microsoft - So new 360 60Gb sku to sell at $299

And if the new 60GB SKU was $299, then all other SKUs would have to drop respectively or sales of the $279 Arcade would be completely cannibalized to the point that it would make almost no sense to keep offering them to consumers.

I'm sure most have already noticed that MS and Sony have essentially come up with virtually the SAME strategy; maintain current prices of their various SKUs while adding perceived value to consumers for their "core" SKU (currently the 40GB PS3 and 20GB 360) through additional HDD space while discontinuing the old/replaced SKUs.

Neither one should be particularly eager to drop price at this point, less the other follow suit, effectively canceling out the supposed advantage and losing more money on each console sold.

Not particularly promising to those holding their breath for another string of price cuts all around, but there is still a remote chance it could happen as the holidays approach.

More likely, holiday bundles will be offered instead once again, from both companies at current prices.

MS has a new chipset coming soon. It's likely that they're planning to use that cost reduction to get the price down in America.

They badly need a price cut in the US. It's obvious that the demand is there, they've just dried up the market by only offering one $50 price cut in nearly three years. Get the price down and sales will be way up again.

You are a complete troll for spreading rumors and misinformation tailored to your preferences.

Agreed. Selnor you are not even living in America. Why do you even care about the American X360 console prices? You plan on importing a cheap 60GB American X360? UK console price is like $100 to $200 US more expensive than the UK retail of the same console. Anyway the American consoles are superior than PAL and Japanese consoles.

FYI: the only people who make money out of increased console sales are the companies: MS, Nintendo and Sony. Fan boys do not make any money from console sales. You forked out money for a console just like the rest of us console owners.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

At $299 I think the 360 will outsell the PS3 in NA for the end of the year, but still be outsold slightly WW. I doubt however, after the gaming division being profitable, that they would let the 360 maintain the $299 price without a $50 price drop in response.

I am almost certain that the 80gb Core will be less costly to produce than the 40gb, since the plan all year was to shrink both the RSX and the cell, so I would assume the 80gb with a $50 price drop would put the PS3 in the same hardware loss situation it is in now with the 40gb, with the biggest PS3 titles of the year being Sony developed and produced and software sales in general picking up, I think they could manage this and still be profitable (in the gaming division as a whole).

Without a price drop and the XBox360 dropping to $299 permanently I think its very easy to see the 360 will slap the PS3 around this holiday season in NA.

If some Target store messed up and put the 60Gb out early, I would say that the same employees messed up and put the same price on it as the 20GB version, treating them both as the same thing.

I would rather it be $300. I bought the 20BG for $300 recently, so I won't lose anything if the price is lower, as all I want my hard drive for is 10-15 arcade games and perhaps some DLC for Oblivion and a few other games. I doubt that will fill it up. Having the 60GB at $300 is good, becuase more people will buy the 360. As long as the 360 and the PS3 stay highly competitive, they will coexist as the hardcore platforms, and will get alot of 3rd party non exclusive support. They just need to stay at 45% combined market share or higher to be a good choice for 3rd party hardcore games.

I'll hope for it :) That would be awesome news ^_^ ESP if they drop the cost on the Arcade, I might go back on my word and pick one up for $249 instead of $199 :P

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

120,000 - 140,000 weekly? As in the the new norm for sustained sales?

I doubt it

ManusJustus, is probably right, if target put it out early the product may have the same sku, so it would run at the 299, though i do expect that to be permanent around october anyway

To the people who think the manufacturers don't control the price:

i can't find anything on it with google, but I swore I read something that stated in order to sell a video game console, you have to sell it at the price stated by the manufacturer. It has something to do with the loss per console.

Also, in Newegg, walmart, best buy, target, amazon, and any other major retail store, they all cost the same. Name any other product where that's true?
