Forums - Sony - LittleBigPlanet: Make Good Stuff, Get More Space

wow that is TERRIBLE. You won't see a game on PC being limited like that. Seriously, that is NOT a good idea.

Around the Network

That's not a very good idea, to be honest.

If Sony wants to promote popular - not necessarily good - levels, that's fine by me. But this system will give actual power to ratings trolls, who go around various websites bashing stuff for the hell of it, and that's never a good thing.

And like Kasz216 already said, some aspiring stage builders may find themselves being punished just because their vision isn't shared (or even seen) by the majority of people on PSN.

From a certain point of view, you might say that Sony is not really promoting creativity, but choosing popularity over it.

Put better then I was saying it.

I wonder how many stages are going to get negative ratings for "Being too hard".

Are they still charging for levels?

360 IS OPERATIONAL AFTER 37 DAYS!

Well I'd like to think of it this way, I think Sony's going to give you the same amount of space that was originally available to begin with. You'll still be able to make huge levels :P This just benefits the people who spend more time and probably want more space. Granted, the first person to make a halo or mario level is guaranteed extra space :P

I like this actually. I'm gonna make some awesome levels and have them bless me >: )

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

That's honestly, a misguided and fanboy way to look at it if you ask me.

Other games aren't limtied in this way so to look at it if there was some "baseline" is just off.

The baseline for this kind of thing is infinite upload space.

You could probably fill your PS3's memory with thousands opon thousands of LBP levels unless they are using something horribly inefficient.

You will be able to keep the levels on your hard drive, so if you run out of room, take an old level down and put a new one up. This pretty much just rewards people who do good work, it doesn't punish people who don't.

If their scheme works, users who upload the most popular levels will be rewarded with more space. It’s common sense, really — when lurking on YouTube, do you look for the videos with five stars, or with one?

On the other hand, if you wanted to play Devil’s Advocate, you could accuse Sony of some subtle social engineering here. After all, server space is so cheap these days that it’s effectively free. Just think of GMail, and Flikr, and all those sites that let you upload files that are hundreds of megabytes in size — for free.

So it’s not an issue of cost — it’s an issue of quality.

Sony wants to create a sense of value for those who’ve bought their game. By rewarding the best LittleBigPlanet players with more online space — and by restricting those who, well, suck — they can make this dream a reality. Or at least, that’s the plan.
