Forums - Gaming - Time for an iPhone/iPod Touch section.

Well, as of this writing, there are 278 games on the App store, with new games every day. That's a lot considering the store has only been up a few weeks. Some of these games are great. Traditional developers supporting the iPhone include EA, Sega, and Namco.

I have perused every game (reading reviews and such), and played several dozen of them. They range from free to $10, with most of them being free. The games I have purchased are Super Monkey Ball, and Enigmo (physics game).

Some of the more entertaining ones are Cube Runner, Aurora Feint, and Subway.

This is tuning into more then just a novelty concept on a phone. I can see the iPod touch starting to sell as a gaming platform.

Any plans on tracking sales of these gaming devices?

wow, is it just me that thinks this?

I agree with this but there is no real way to track it unless you ask Apple Inc. for the stats.

Aurora Feint has me hooked :)

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

I don't think it's either viable or necessary. Gaming is enough of a secondary feature for the device that it really doesn't matter too much in the long run. It would be like counting all the generic BR/HDDVD player because some movies ship with stupid little games on them.

The iPhone is, first and foremost, a phone. NOT a gaming device. Cell phones have had games since very early on, and I don't see the iPhone as being different in that respect.

Plus, neither Apple not AT&T stores will give out sales data, and that is where all the US orders come from. Good luck estimating the market with 0% sales data... (no comment on other countries, as I don't know how they are sold anywhere but america)

The Vii should get its own forum before the iphone.

Funnily enough, I was slobbering all over my colleagues new iPhone 5 mins ago and discussing it as a game platform as well.

I think theres one big hurdle though - you cant buy the iPhone standalone without a telecommunication provider's contract. Thus, its not really open to the mass market per se.

But I really do think the day there is no more contractual agreement tied to it, people will start to buy it as a gaming iPod and will definitely be a competitor in the portable games market.

^you nailed why its shouldn't be tracked, but if they were to make it open with having to be a phone first then maybe

No, I dont think sales are going to be that great, and they are more glorified mini-games as well. We dont track usual phone sales, so I dont see any reason to track iPhone sales

You can buy the iPod touch however, and aside from the built in speaker (you need headphones), it plays all the same games, exactly the same.

If not tracking, at least make a forum so we can talk about the games.

As far as the Vii comment WoW, the iPhone has more capability then the PSP, and the DS (cpu/space/network/video wise), and SEGA has stated it's more powerful then the DreamCast.

Not sure why you would want to put that in the class of the Vii. There is so much hate on this site, for no reason. I don't get it.
