Yes. Mario Kart Wii is fun single player and online.
Nope. All you have to do is go back and play MK DD, or even DS, and compare the turning to those games to Wii. It's painfully obvious the turning is slower, but whether that affects you as a player or not I guess is different for everyone. And MK 64 worse than MK Wii, pshhh... it's a matter of opinion I guess.

MK64 is horrible in comparison.... it was still the best karting game at the time, and still a good game, but whenever I thought "I want to play Mario Kart" I ended up playing Snowboard Kids instead, which although not strictly a kart game, was similar in many aspects.
I haven't got DS version but I have had a go and remember the turning being slower on that than DD.... and from memory also slower than MKWii which to me seems similar to DD.
@ Grey. Well I dunno, I'd have to have a look again, but if they were 3D karts (and characters) then they certainly didn't feel connected to the road.

The game is amazing. Best online game on the Wii by far!
It's a shame that my best friend refuses to buy the game because it is back to single kart. wtf!?
