The Wii is still kicking but. And after the monster sales of the DS... you'd think they were running out of buyers in japan....

There really haven't been any monster Wii releases in Japan last few months - not since Mario Kart. WiiFit has kept sales as reasonable, but not huge.
I don't think things will change until Xmas, when Animal Crossing & WiiMusic are released.
The DS is a different story. Saturation is... saturation. Its still selling REALLY well, just not the sky-rocket sales of last few years.
Ninty really need that new DS model, but are hesitant to do anything as sales are so strong in Europe/US.
Wonder if there is any chance of a "polished up" DS in Japan for Xmas - that would re-ignite sales.

At this point it's about software sales on those platforms, Nintendo doesn't seem to want to release a new hardware unit because they believe they can still do something 'new' with the current one.
I'm Unamerica and you can too.
The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:
This may warrant a relook at sales figures:
http://kotaku.com/5030821/forget-wii-fit-its-mario-kart-thats-buttering-nintendos-bread
WiiFit is listed as 3.42M while VGChartz has it at 5.93
MKWii is listed at 6.42M while VGChartz has it at 6.53
Listed from the article is supposed to be shipped through June 30.
VGChartz is sold through sometime in July.
The MKWii numbers look pretty close, given the demand and sell-through (you can hardly find one in the US right now).
However, there is a great decrepancy in the WiiFit numbers. Without knowing source or other estimates, I am not sure why that is.

Actual that 3.42m and 6.42m are for the first quarter (Apr-June) alone.
The 5.93m and 6.53m are LTD numbers.
Wii Fit had many sales prior to April 2008 since it launched in Japan around December 2007.
Everything is cooling off in Japan though. With exception of the PSP which is still riding on the wave of appeal of solely the new version that came out.

Are you sure? The article says
"while Wii Fit's been a media darling, and has captured Nintendo a ton of good press with morning television crowd, it's sold "only" 3.42 million units worldwide since launch."
Thanks Dark Prince.
Fishy Joe -- I wondered about that too ... since all I had to look at was the Kotaku story. I thought it warrented someone checking the financials first, then trying to figure out if there was a problem.
Also, given the release of those games, 1Q and LTD are not going to be that much different for Mario Kart but could be very different for Wii Fit.

I'm 100% positive as I'm taking the values directly from Nintendo's corporate report.
