Forums - Nintendo - Joystiq voters prove they can't see beyond E3.

Just go to joystiq and look up their latest weekly webcomic roundup.

And as for the Ubisoft thing, I would state that as a reason NOT to jump on Nintendo.

And you are completely ignoring that Reggie and Cammie were NOT the only Nintendo execs making statements about E3 and Nintendo. Miyamoto and Iwata did state that Nintendo is working on core games, they just don't feel they have to announce them all at E3.

Futhermore, Iwata did acknowledge that E3 conference gave the wrong idea, which means Nintendo doesn't feel that way, or else they wouldn't have felt the need to apologize.

E3 is the biggest game show in America. This is a show that companies typically use to reveal their short to midterm plan. Remember, this is the show that just a few years ago really revealed to the western press the direction that Nintendo was going go with the Wii. The fact that Nintendo didn't find it important enough to show anything that hardcore gamers would care about, further reveals the direction they're taking the Wii.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Furthermore, we're talking about a webcomic. It's satire. By definition, it is a somewhat sarcastic or exaggerated take on reality. In other words, the comic doesn't necessarily represent the true beliefs of the creator or the fans. What it does represent is that hardcore gamers are feeling a little abandoned. And what right do you have to say they shouldn't feel that way? It's Nintendo's own fault that they didn't cater at all to a huge section of their fanbase during the biggest game show in America and instead announced Pikmin, Mario, and Zelda off-handedly in random parties or events.

Edit: And if you're still angry about this whole situation, let me lead you through an analogy. Imagine you had a girlfriend and it was Valentine's Day. But instead of hanging out with her and taking her to dinner, you played backyard football with some friends. Then the next day, as she was leaving for work, you said, "Oh, I hope there's not a misunderstanding. I do actually love you." What do you think her reaction would be?

I didn't claim they didn't have a right to feel that way (and you really twisted my words to claim I am stating such). I just claimed their logic was crap. One bad E3 show, that Nintendo even admitted didn't represent their real position on the hardcore, is not proof Nintendo has abandoned the hardcore.

They have a right to feel however they want. That still won't make their reasons for feeling that any less stupid.

Then again, you've defended anti-Nintendo stances before, so it figures you would support this.

A little off-topic, but there's no way they'll have another E3 like that. After the horrible backlash, and the palpable discomfort of each one of Reggie, Dunaway, and especially Miyamoto and Iwata, I can't see any sane company doing that again. I found the comic funny, but a little painful:

Nintendo is on top so you are going to get haters. And almost every last one of their arguments against with be pathetic and FALSE. Just got to ignore it.

Anyone with a logical head knows Nintendo hasn't abandoned the core gamer. They simply know they are going to make casual games and core games to maximize profits. Ya know something SONY does as well. And something MICROSOFT is currently trying to do.

E3 has changed since 2 years ago if you havent noticed. What announcements were made at E3 this year? Wii Motion Plus and Final Fantasy 13 for 360. That is pretty much it.

All three did not bring their big guns, showing that E3 is a shell of its former self. While gamers still cling to the hope that E3 might become the awesome expo it once was, the fact of the matter is it isnt. It isnt even close.

Some of us are thinking Nintendo is just using their same strategy with the DS. Once the third parties come back, then Nintendo will just give a few games, while letting third parties go for broke (notice all the RPGs Atlus is publishing for the DS).

Okay, sorry, they do have a right to feel the way they do, but they're stupid for feeling that way. Big difference....

Anyway, did you get a chance to read my "Edit"? Here it is again:

I hope you wouldn't tell your pissed off girlfriend she's stupid for feeling a bit left out.

And as for my "anti-Nintendo" bias.... I know you're talking about the Ubisoft fiasco. Actually I proudly own a Wii now. I got 60 stars in Galaxy and I loved it to death. I'm near the end of Twilight Princess now, and while I was a bit disappointed with the first 15 hours, the last half of the game has been absolutely stellar. I owned a Gamecube back in the day, and while it probably goes down as my least favorite console I've ever owned, I still enjoyed it. I've been a huge Melee fan since day one, and I love Brawl, but just haven't had much time to play it. No way I'm anti-Nintendo. I just see Nintendo for who they are: a stellar developer who will continue to make hardcore games, but with the success of the DS and Wii, they're a bit more focused these days on casual titles. And that's why I and many others now feel left out considering there's very little of interest coming from Nintendo anytime soon. And if there is something for me coming soon, they sure as hell did a piss poor job of notifying me at the biggest game show in my home country.

i saw nintendo do things this way:

- nintendo presents e3 for the casual gamer (their target market, in my opinion. my wife loves our wii and so do her friends)
- nintendo then releases statements after the fact saying they are still there for the hardcore gamer... news that probably only hardcore gamers will read.

so yeah, nintendo is obviously still making games for core gamers, but they are investing heavily in the casual market. e3 just wasn't for us gaming otaku.
