Forums - Sales - The real 10 year plan

The 10 year plan isn't incorrect. In fact, 3 consoles have shipped more than 10 years after their respective releases. This is solely for fun reasons, and isn't really made to prove a point.

Also, the title is incorrect. It should have been "the 20 year plan".

The NES was released in 1983. In Nintendo's half year report for 2003 (which can be found on the site here: http://vgchartz.com/worldcons.php?date=37865&sort=0), NES shipped 10K. More than 20 years after its release.

The SNES was released in 1990. In the second half of 2000, it shipped 10K. More than 10 years after its release.

The PS1 was released  in 1995. In FY 05 it shipped 1.6M. 10 years after its release.

So, this far. Every "winning" console has shipped more than 10 years after their releases. The 10 year plan remains intact.

I think they meant 10 years of significant sales.

NES shipped 2M+ after its first 10 years of sales. That's pretty signifficant :P

exactly every wining console had 10 years, but no losing console lasts more than its genaration, but this genaration all 3 seem to be healthy enough to last about 7 years and more for the wining console

10 years of game support...!

I'm not sure how to insult you and tell you you're silly without being rude!

They still sell variations of the Megadrive in south america and they still sell a version in the uk ala a kind of 20-in-1 type thing with a hardwired controller and what not for £20.

Do you think if they started production of the dreamcast again that it would be a 10 year plan success also.

Hehe, the NES shipped later than the N64/SNES :P

The longest a losing console lasted is probably around 6 years actually. (the GC lasted minimum 6.5 years.)

Burgles - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NES_games

12 years with game support

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ps1_games

11 years with game support

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Atari_2600_games

15+ years with game support.

You know, I'm not really being serious with this thread.

Not that I want to refer to my beloved Intellivision as a losing console, but it shipped from 1979 through 1990.

Oh, you're correct. I have no idea about pre-NES data, so don't expect me to know anything about that.

I would bet that the PS2 will hit 200 million by the time 2011 rolls around. It still gets close to outselling the 360 worldwide (and sometimes does). I understand why, it's by far my favorite system of all time (and I've owned all of them including the next gen ones).

Its only week spot is used games. It would almost certainly be the top selling software platform if it wasn't for wall upon wall of used games everywhere (since used sales aren't tracked). I still see tons of kids with their parents buying PS2 games whenever I got to Gamestop.
