Don't forget the following :

- At the beginning of April Sony had around 1.5 millions console in channels by VGChartz estimate, even if those are all estimates I believe we can all agree that PS3 were not hard to find anywhere at that time.

- At the beginning of April Microsoft was slowly getting over its out of stock problems and channels were not stuffed ( 360 were not in huge stocks at most retailers).

Now here we are in July

-360 are pretty easy to find at most retailers in the US.

- 40Gb are getting very scarce and most retailers mostly have 80Gb bundles which we know were shipped during the last 2 weeks and after the end of the last quarter.

So what we know for sure is that for NA ( I have no clue what the situation is in Others and won't try to guess).

Microsoft sold more to retailers than retailers sold to customers ( as demonstrated by the fact that the 360 is easier to find in stock now than it was 3.5 months ago).

Sony sold less to retailers than retailers sold to customers ( demonstrated by the fact it is becoming very hard to find a 40Gb at most US retailers)...

True, but I wouldn't be surpised if PS3 is like 100k off or so. Either way, it's pretty good for Vgchartz.

Flawed logic - How do you know its not cause Sony is shipping more 80 gigs instead of 40 gigs to store??

Because 80 Gigs were flat out of stock anywhere in the US until the 2nd week of July and the numbers reported stop on June 30th so they surely didn't fill channels with 80Gb last quarter...

This kind of thing happens all the time... sales and shipments fluctuate, none of us know when MS or Sony send shipments out, for all we know MS shipped 200k the day before the end of the quarter, and Sony might have not shipped in the past 6 days or so.

It might even be the other way around.

My bet is that PS3 is slightly overtracked, somewhere between 200 and 600k.

VGC shows "stock" was 440k for PS3, and 810k for X360, so with the above estimates stock would be 640k (still fewer than 360 despite it selling faster wek on week, this would still indicate it was in poor supply compared to 360) or up to 1040k (more than X360, but comparatively more in that it sells more weekly, this indicates supply is about the same as 360)

^I am going to start using "stock" and "supply" differently from now on, my use of "stock" is how many units are out of Sony/MS/Nin hands (classed as shipped) but not yet sold from stores.
Wheras my use of "supply" will be to indicate how well it is "stocked" compared to how well is sells, (so poor supply for Wii would be 1mil units, but for 360 that would be ample supply, even though it is the same amount of stock)
