Criteria:

They included also interesting graphs like these:

“In the entertainment business, there are only heaven and hell, and nothing in between and as soon as our customers bore of our products, we will crash.”  Hiroshi Yamauchi

Very informative. Thanks for posting this.

What is funny is that if you add up the profit of company in black other than Nintendo you obtain a summ lower than Nintendo's profit alone.

What is even more funny is that if you add up all various profit/loss except Nintendo's one then you get a negative result.

I know that is a simplified operation but could make thought about the industry above all because Nintendo was the ONLY company to choose a different way ...

Priceless! Companies 2nd, 3rd & 4th on revenue --> come in last, 2nd last & 3rd last on profitability.

That is the "price" of competing with Nintendo.

And EA used to be way up there on profitability...

Makes you realise how much of the industry is being "subsidized" by the other divisions within MS & Sony - especially MS.

Nintendo at number 1?

BIAS! I call.

Wouldn't have thought that Sony is still so close to Nintendo.

I think thats rather the price of competing with each other (Nr.2 and 3)

wow didnt no ea had a husge loss or that disney were such a big publisher very informative

wow squenixs profitability is massive its like 20% of their revenue!

The profit graph shows why it is hard for another company to enter the console market. Unless you are the console leader, it is better to just make games.

Anyone that thinks these tables are funny is no friend of gaming. It is not good for gaming or the industry and ultimately the consumer that 3rd party software publishers struggle to make money.
It just means they will be more inclined to chase the faster, cheaper buck. And if that means emulating Nintendo then the industry will contract in style and be all the worse for it in my opinion.

Why do I get the feeling you wouldn't say that if Sony or M$ were in Nintendos place?

W-O-W just look at Nintendo

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)
