Forums - Nintendo - Take-Two increasing Wii development. GTA... no comment now.

Take-Two Talk GTA On The Wii

Reggie wants it. You (maybe) want it. Take-Two shareholders most certainly want it. So Grand Theft Auto on the Wii's a no-brainer, right? Sure looks that way to us, but we're not Take-Two. Our names aren't anything cool like Strauss. Take-Two themselves are being awful suggestive on the subject, with Ben Feder responding to the "GTA on Wii?" question with:

I can't comment on it, but obviously we have one of the best selling third –party games on the Wii in Carnival Games from 2K Play, so we know the Wii pretty well. We're building up assets to develop for the Wii and we're excited about its growth. I can't comment on GTA specifically on the Wii...

Read into that what you will, but we read a man saying those words with a smirk on his face and his right hand patting his wallet ever so softly.

You may think Carnival Games was shovelware, but it had a damn physics engine. That shows they were working harder on the Wii than a few other developers at that time.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I'm not sure any developer that creates a game of the standard of Carnival Games can claim to 'know the Wii pretty well'!

I played Carnival Games last night and it aint good!

How much would Wii Sports and Wii Fit appeal to core gamers? Nintendo still knows the Wii anyway. The game doesn't have to be hardcore graphics pushing to know the system. It just has to be made for the system, at an appreaciable level of processing power.

I just hope they use Godfather's controls if they are making GTA Wii.

I was just about to post how I would like to swing a baseball bat, strangle a ho, and point to shoot like Godfather but with the structure and design of GTA.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Godfather is awesome for controls. Since Conduit did so well awards wise at E3 maybe a new game with that level of effort would be a goer.

Not that GTA on Wii is a bad idea, its more to do with being properly designed for it. Aslong as the game is violent, funny, sandbox and allows sex, drugs and in game radio with songs better thank Twinkle little star.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I want to see a GTA in Japan, where the protagonist is a daughter of a Yakuza lord, and the game pretends Tokyo is the stereotypical anime city, with mecha, magical girls, and humongous monsters.

Sound good, I agree.

That would be great for the Wii

GTA Chinatown Wars will show if GTA has a chance on Nintendo platforms.
