No, Ninja Gaiden isn't that difficult, except for that infernal platforming segment in the sixth world. But it is difficult enough to frustrate most people, especially the ending stage + boss rush. Battletoads is another story entirely.
Punch out isn't really that tough until you get to Super Macho Man and his random Instant KO Punch of Doom. And then you have the infamous first round of the Tyson fight...
