Forums - Gaming - Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank question...

Ratchet & Clank is just as fun without playing the other games. I was hoping they fixed the 80 gig thing because once i'm done with futures, I'm going to beat the others...and the PSP games. damn the replay ability of that game. Can't wait for the next to come out.

As for Jak & Daxter, i don't know if they are going to have any connections to the previous games but they are really good games as well so I would suggest playing them just for the fun aspect. I'm curious to see if Jak & Daxter will be as good as Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction. It's my favorite platformer of all time (just passed all the mario games. even if I still love most of those).

Anyone know if they are going to make a Sly Cooper for the PS3 yet?

They are making infamous instead

Jak is much more of a pure platformer instead of Ratchet which is much more action based, though Jak II and 3 do have guns, they are still more platform based

@DMeisterJ

What? I did, I'm simply making a list of PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube games that I should own and play right now, I'm beginning to get rather pissed off because there is a bunch of games I want but I know for sure I won't have the time to beat them all or play through them all as a matter of fact.

Considering I own a Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 and PSP and DS.

Fuck its hard owning all those damn fucking consoles. What the fuck!!!

Sorry for the language it was a outburst that was needed!!

As others have said you don't need to play them before moving on to ToD. I played the first 3 on the PS2 after playing ToD, the games are pretty much all the same but ToD is by far the best, from the graphics, sound, gameplay, to just being a better game overall. All the games last between 12-15 hours, and reward more then one play through. You can find them at ebgames for $10, or rent them from blockbuster for about 6-7 dollars each.

i plyed ratchet and clank 3 and then TOD and while the visuals (apart from TOD you now being next gen) and moveset etc were similar i think everyone will enjoy this game (TOD) whetehr they played ratchet and clanks on ps2 or no. Both excellent games and my favourite probs on their respective consoles!

You don't need to play the other games to understand it. But if you are going to play the older Jak an daxter games I recommend you to start from the first one because the three first games are in fact one big story.

Exactly, I'm definitely going to buy the whole Jak series, so that when the sequel releases on the PS3, I will already know the understanding of the game.

So it must come to me that the Ratchet & Clank's on the PS2 are not worth playing since its the same formula as the PS3 Ratchet and Clank. And the story's don't really intertwine with one other, right?

Ratchet aint exactly story heavy, and you can always catch up on wiki

Jak games are so good that you should get them, though we do not know what form the J & D PS3 game is going to take (or whether it is actually ever going to come)

Yeah, I knew that the Ratchet and Clank games were not story heavy. It was the gameplay that was making the game get high review scores and positive word of mouth. But considering the gameplay is the same thing on the PS3 version of Rachet and Clank. I will just skip all those PS2 Ratchet and Clanks and buy the PS3 Ratchet and Clank and also buy the whole Jak and Daxter Trilogy.

Considering I never played a Jak game ever too!! So that will help out and plus the Jak games are backwards compatiable with the 80GB PS3 without any problems. According to Sony official website.

I can't vouch for Ratchet (as I've only played ToD), but the Jak series is awesome. Especially the first one, when they were creative enough not to need to toss guns into my cartoony platformer.

^ This.  Though the second was my favorite. :P

The J&D series was one of my prime motivators in getting a ps3.  I'm kind've disappointed that the series hasn't shown up yet, but Uncharted (<3 Naughty Dog) and LBP greatly make up for it.

^ and Metal Gear Solid 4 or are you just talking about platformers?
