Forums - Microsoft - XBLA Coming Weeks: Geometry Wars, Bionic Commando, Castle Crashers and more

Anyone know anything more about what Castle Crashers will be like? The description makes it read like some sort of action-RPG a la Gauntlet.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

The game is in the perspective of a beat 'em up like Final Fight, Golden Axe or Streets of Rage, because it's a straight 2D left to right game that has depth to move closer and further from the screen. It also has leveling, magic, animal orbs for stats, and other elements that bring it into the Action RPG category. Therefore it's both Action RPG and Beat 'Em Up with an emphasis on co-op play, and a lot of humor.

Bottom line, get it.

Wow. Awesome.

Some might argue, but this is by far, the best month in the history of digital downloads. No other system can boast this kind of depth & quality for their lineup on a console.

I think that actually publishing the timeframe of the games will build up anticipation for each title, and help them all sell better.

First week predictions:

Geometry Wars 2: 25,000
Braid: 20,000
Bionic Command Rearmed: 22,000
Galga Legions: 14,500
Castle Crashers: 40,000

I think CC, Braid and Geo Wars will easily hit 100,000/$1,000,000 in their first month on the market, with CC having a good shot at 250,000.

Wow, you really think Bionic Commando Rearmed will sell less in the first week than Geometry Wars 2 and only 2,000 more than Braid?  And you think the other three will easily hit 100,000, but not Bionic Commando?

I must disagree, I think Bionic Commando Rearmed will be #2 in sales out of those five games, both in the first week and overall.  And it will be closer to Castle Crashers than to the #3 game (GW2).

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

I don't consider Bionic Commando the best video game in all of history. GeoWars2 has the advantage of being on XBLA only (BC is on PS3 as well). Braid has been hyped to all heaven for quite some time, and I feel it'll have great legs.

Now, just because I said that BC wouldn't reach 100,000 in it's first month doesn't mean that I think it's going to do bad. I predict anywhere from 85,000-95,000 in it's first month. Look at 1942: Joint Strike and how it did it's first week (XBLA/PSN cross-plat release, and 1942 is a decently large franchise).

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

braid sounds interesting

Wow, great week. I will probably get Castle Crashers and Galaga.

Finally Braid is releasing! I can't wait!!

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Excellent lineup and I always wondered why Microsoft didn't do some sort of advertising campaign like this for Live Arcade releases. Also, this is the perfect time to do it in. July has been OK, but weak compared to other months for core gamers.

Geometry Wars 2 is out and it's awesome.  Also, check this out:

Microsoft need to push xbl a lot more then they currently are (this is a great start) as I've always been of the opinion that it'll be one of the keys to the profitability of the xbox.
