IMHO Downloads where never a problem and wont be for at least another 10 years. DVDs are the problem for Blu-ray to take over and it seems it is happening slowly but surely. I guess for sony's sake it was smart to put blu-ray in the PS3.

In order for them to really take off they should lower the price for each movie to roughly DVD prices... Blu Ray movies are still too expensive here in Europe (~$50 for a new release)

In Europe everything is expensive. A PS3 costs $700, yet people are still buying it.

again, direct conversion is unfair. (Almost) ALL electronic products from iPod to TV have a conversion from 1$ to 1E.

Some of this is VAT, some is import fees (thanks EU) but most of it is simply the fact that prices do not fluctuate with exchange rate. At least not that fast. In 2004 you got 80 US Cent for a Euro. Today you get 1.5$.

But yes BluRay has to get cheaper. 30 Euro for a disc are ridiculous.

Once players are at 150E DVD will fall behind. Why buy a DVD player at this point, since BluRay players are (like HD-DVD players) also the better DVD players thanks to their upsampling muscle.

@dno where do you play 19.99 for dvds (in the usa), out side of seasons or colleters sets i havent paid more than 9.95 for dvd, and good blueray movies are 29.99, ones that are remastered.
