Forums - General - Is "Bugger" a swear word???

Bugger a vulgar word? Wow, that's news. I don't use it often at all, but among the people I know, no one has taken offense to it, or meant for anyone to take offense to it. I have a feeling that in the USA we feel it's on par with 'dang', or like Aj_habfan said, referring to a kid and is a lesser form of brat.

It's just how you were brought up. Saying "bugger", "git", "crap" and "twat" is fine in my family, but my parents get all pissy if I say "poxy", which really winds me up.

Anyways, I'm a firm believer that no words should be censored, and that every person should be able to say what they want when they want. Every man should be entitled to freedom of speech, and yet no one is.

Poxy?

Is that even a word?

I've also never heard "git" used except in those cheesy old TV western shows...

We're two nations seperated by a common language. ;)

Git is generally and old cantankerous bastard.
My missus thinks bugger is bad and well narky when I let our son say it.
And poxy is a type of internet gateway, right? ;)

Poxy is more of a descriptive word than swearing. like when you buy something and it breaks you could say "what a poxy peice of crap" or if someone is being an asshole "they have a poxy personality". I would say Poxy is acceptable

i dont consider bugger to be a swear word

Ehhhh? It doesn't sound much like a swear to me... Oh well not that I used it at all anyways but at least I know now.
