Forums - Gaming - Why wont Infinite Undiscovery go multiplat according to SE's logic?

Before its launch, Michihiro Sasaki, senior vice president of Square Enix, spoke about the Playstation 3, saying "We don't want the PlayStation 3 to be the overwhelming loser, so we want to support them, but we don't want them to be the overwhelming winner either, so we can't support them too much." Square Enix continued to reiterate their devotion to multi-platform publishing in 2007, promising more support for the North American and European gaming markets where console pluralism is generally more prevalent than in Japan. Their interest in multi-platform development was made clear in 2008 when the previously Playstation 3-exclusive game Final Fantasy XIII was announced for release on the Xbox 360. (Search "Square Enix" on wikipedia for this piece of info)

Hmmm, it seems pretty clear to me that you do want them to be the "overwhelming loser" eh?

So according to Square's logic, i see no reason why Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean: The Last Hope wont end up on Playstation 3, it will sell more copies and make more money for them (thats what EVERYONE said as an explanation for FF13's move to the Xbox 360). I will be buying this game for Xbox 360 regardless on whether it ends up on PS3 but I really dont understand Square Enix these days.

Discuss (why those 2 games wont go multiplatform).

I think it's quite obvious *stares at Microsoft*

Well, just because those games are not going (or maybe will, who knows) to the PS3, doesn't mean that SE are making the PS3 the "overwhelming loser". Remember, they have an invite only event on August 3rd and they did say "we're swinging the ball back to sony." Who knows what they could have in store, it may or may not be PS3 related.

I think maybe its time exclusive.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Microsoft owns the IP, because they started as the publisher, but then SE took over those duties

SO 4 is only a timed exclusive (very probably) because of all the money

Maybe Star ocean 4 will go to ps3 unlike Infinite Undiscovery they didnt say it was exclusive.

yeh i found out that microsoft had the rights to infinite undiscovery, so thats that. but who knows? we have seen a lot of backstabbing lately.

By that logic, would verses and WKS also be headed to the 360?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

My theory?

Tri-Ace needed funding to get out of Namco's ball-vice... MS offered them a deal for funding projects but MS would get the rights to some of the properties.
